Who is our protector and light of the world?

This Saint held his shield and sword as the protector of the human race since his great battle with Lucifer, driving him into hell. Unfortunately he doesn't stay there and if you don't think the dark forces don't exist, well, I guess you don't get out of the house much!

The "divil" as the Irish say, taunts and tempts, hides and slithers so cleverly that you will think he is a prince from heaven. But, if you listen to your instincts, and the heaviness in your gut, you see a light shrouded in darkness and a smell without odor, yes, my friends tread carefully in these waters. The Saints spent their lives muddling through these murky depths, rescuing those they could, counting on a Source beyond themselves to aid in their fight for God's kingdom. And when confronted with evil whom do they turn to?

The children of the light will always have the assistance of this Saint and his armies of angels in overcoming the children of darkness, those seduced by the false power of Satan. According to the doctrine of the Catholic Church this Saint will one day cast the fallen Lucifer into hell forever. Until that time Christians are taught that leading lives of sacrifice, prayer and good works strengthens and protects them against this relentless adversary.

Which Saint am I talking about?

Michael is an Archangel. Therefore, he was never human and cannot become a saint. Saints are qualified by the miracles they perform during their life or after their death, as verified by the Church. It cannot be Michael, the Archangel.
It does sound like Michael, but, he is not a Saint.

ARCHANGELS. Spiritual beings who belong to the eighth group of the nine orders or choirs of angels. The word angel means messenger; an archangel is a messenger sent by God on an assignment of greater importance. The only three archangels mentioned in the Bible are Michael, captain of the heavenly ghost; Gabriel, who announced to Mary that she was to become the Mother of God and Raphael who guided-
Tobiah- a devout and wealthy Isrealite living among the captives deported to Nineveh, from the northern kingdom of Israel in 721 B.C. He is a hero of ancient Near Eastern Folklore.

*from the New American Bible-Catholic Edition*

The Catholic church does not name a "saint who will cast Satan away" in Revelations nor do I know of any teaching on this. I was taught that Jesus Christ will cast Satan into the fiery pit forever and ever.

Now this is a hard one! Well at least I think it would be. Let us see if anyone gets this one!

I was drawn to the cover picture, of a woman with warm brown eyes spanning the misery and victory of the years, the recently canonized Saint XXXXX.

Just what is the story of this SAINT? Well, most of it we would probably not want to know, because she was kidnapped at seven or nine years old in her native Sudan in 1875. The fright of this experience made her forget her name. Her kidnappers named her the fortunate one. A Sudanese slave subjected to torments, cruelties and indignities most of us could not even imagine.

Oddly enough, her cruel captors were the vehicles used by God to bring about her conversion and eventual freedom. You would think it would be the other way around, wouldn't you? There is not revenge in those brown eyes sparkling with a hint of the Divine, but the knowledge of a woman deeply loved by her heavenly Father.

Imagine a child pulled from the arms of her mother and father, sister, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. Then this same child, an orphan, trudging with bare feet as in an aftermath of a tornado, on hot stone paths or in freezing snow carrying bundles, and burdens that the world does not even see. She longs for the gentle call of her mother's voice. Instead, each morning she is wakened with lashings, insults, and baser acts committed against those helpless and forgotten children of God.

However, not forgotten completely. Her canonization is timely, and hopefully draws attention to the plight of present day Sudanese Slaves. She was watching and praying from heaven has been waiting for people to listen, and help. Yes, it is 125 years after her birth and so little has changed in this area of assault to human dignity and worth.

Just what were the virtues that made her a Saint?

I would imagine that patience would be at the near top of the list. But more than likely, it is her lack of bitterness to transgressors, and even her gratitude to them for bringing her to Italy, where she was treated kindly and led to conversion through the Daughters of Charity, the Canossian Sisters. They ran a boarding school and when the mistress wanted to take her back to Africa, she boldly said that she would stay with the Sisters and practice her faith. Her Mother Superior had the church and secular leaders help in securing her freedom since slavery was illegal in Italy. At the age of 41 she became a Canossian Sister and lived in Schio, Italy until her death in 1947.

okay here we have the next saint! Let us see if you get it.

A disciple of Christ sent by St. Thomas to the court of King Abgar the Black, the second century Osroene ruler. Legendary accounts claim Abgar wrote to Christ asking Jesus to cure him of an intolerable and incurable illness. Abgar's court was in Edessa in Asia Minor (modern Turkey). This Saint cured Abgar and converted the king and his people to the faith. One of these was Addai, who became this Saints successor. This Saint is also supposed to have sent another disciple, Man, to various sites along the Tigris River. It is known that he did missionary work around Edessa toward the end of the second century. Both have been venerated in the Syrian and Persian churches since that era. This Saint is recorded as a martyr for the faith.

This Saint was the daughter of Pepin of Landen, mayor of the palace, and St. Itta. She married Ansegilius, son of St. Arnulf of Metz, and their son was Pepin of Herstal, founder of the Carolingian dynasty of rulers in France. On the death of her husband in the year 691, she built a church and convent at Andenne on the Meuse River and died there. Her feast day is December 17th.
