i have a golden retirever that was hit by a car about a month ago, i took him to the doggie ER where i was told my dog was going to die and i needed to consider putting him down...this guy is 10 mons old and is my best friend so i went and smoked a cig came back in and was told that he was fine all he had was a triple pelvic fracture 2 days later he was released, and i was instructed to sling walk him, when i tried this i was bitten by him so i called a nother vet and the vet said that small amounts of walking wont hurt him the dog is doing great but he runs with both legs together at the same time insteand of the way it should be can anyone help?

I am so happy for you that still have your buddy! What is bothering you about his gait, does he appear to be in pain? what does the vet say about the way he moves?

Like anyone else at times and animal or human after and injury will move different. Most of the time it is just a reflex or due to that was the way to do it with the least amount of pain. Habits are hard to get out of unless he is a show dog or it is interfering with his everyday life. I would leave it be. He is happy and alive and still with you in time you never know he may forget and stop running that way and go back to the normal way.

As long as he doesn't seem to be hurting or suffering from running that way, why worry?huh

I would try to keep him from running for a while...he's running like that because it's too painful to run normally...the muscles are guarding the break. Less movement will allow him to heal better and not risk him having to run like that forever. I know it's hard to keep a good dog down, but if you walk him on a short leash for a while might help. flowerforyou

I can tell you exactly what it is, it's called hip dysplasia, and it is common in golden retrievers, Labs, Dobermans, and a few other large breed dogs. even without traumatic injury.

How do i know? because the same thing happened to my golden retriever. You can spend thousands on surgery, but it's not likely the dog will ever be normal.

I found this in field and stream magazine about 7/8 years ago, and it does work in some cases. Extremely high doses of vitamin ester c. about 2000 mg /day. It has to be esterfied vitamin c, it gets into the blood stream more quickly. Regular vitamin c will only pass through the dogs kidneys.

If the hind legs are moving together, and the (not sure the word) "elbow joints" seem to be pulling towards each other, then thats most likely what it is.

I gave ester c to my dog, and for a while he improved, and then it got to be, i had to carry him up and down the steps.

He was obviously in pain, so for thirteen dollars at the vet, they put him to sleep. They wrap a tourniquet around the front leg, inject below that, one last lick on the cheek, and as soon as the tourniquet was removed, it was all over.

Try the ester c maybe it will work for your dog.

You might think I'm nuts...well ok...
but I have taken both my dogs and my cats to a chiropractor and for accupuncture...

the results were AMAZING, first day -- totally amazing...

of course all injuries or issues are different, but it might be worth checking into for your dog if it's skeletal, muscular or nerve damage...
