Honestly I think it is as safe as meeting someone at a bar, in church, at a grocery store or on the street where you live.
After all we all know there was no crime before the internet. I would strongly caution anyone meeting someone they met on-line to follow some common sense rules. I think most of us know them. Number one rule I would say is this,"If you have doubts or feel uncomfortable don't do it." Some others... Meet in public. Check in with a friend. Anyone else have rules for meeting someone you met on-line? |

I have read much good advice here, about how you should guard yourself.
Maybe this is a new suggestion...be public in the forums about emailing and the first phone conversation. We can be witnesses, and maybe we can be a help. What do you think, comrades? |

Well, the thing is, Im sure many of us would prefer at least some privacy when meeting a new person from the site. But I do feel that having a "buddy system" or a friend you are required to check in with if the date goes past a certain time is a good idea. Kind of along the same lines. We all need to keep in mind there are the "Ted Bundy's" of the world so we need to be careful, not let our guard down until we know the person a little better, and just take normal precautions. The big one for me is the not getting into a date's car until I know him better. Thats a very vulnerable spot to be in.

I havn't met anyone on here, but on another site I did. We had a buddy system. |

Yes it is but meeting anyone that you don’t know is inherently risky. What I always suggest is a neutral, public location. So that could be a restaurant, pub, or coffee shop. ALWAYS arrive in separate vehicles and DO NOT get into his car until you feel confident with the situation. So it is fine to not accept any rides on your first date and the man should be understanding of this and not make you feel bad or awkward. I also think it is perfectly fine for the woman to ask for the man to come to visit her first rather than the other way around. If this is not possible for some reason, meet half way in between in a neutral locale. Hope this helps. so wise |
