if i'm not mistaken, he had wrote that during a tumultuous period in his life, where everything was going to hell, including his first marriage..least thats what i had heard

Have you ever heard "Dreamer", "Mama I'm Coming Home", "I'll See You On The Other Side", "Gets Me Through" ?? I could list more. The man is a musical genius. He's even better performing live.
