If it should be I grow frail and weak
And pain prevents my peaceful sleep Then will you do what must be done? For this, the last battle, can't be won. You will be sad, I understand. Selfishness might stay your hand But on this day, more than the rest, Your love and friendship, must stand the test. We've had so many happy years, That what's to come can hold no fears. You wouldn't want me to suffer, so, When the time comes, please let me go. Take me to where my needs they'll tend. Only...stay with me until the end.. And hold me firm and speak to me, Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you will see, It is kindness you do for me. Although my tail its last has waved From pain and suffering I've been saved Do not grieve that it must be you Who has to decide this thing to do We've been so close, we two, these years... Don't let your heart hold any tears. The Vet gave this poem to me before I had to say goodbye to my best friend of 17 years yesterday. I thought I would share it with anyone who has or will be going through this themselves, since I found it very comforting. To save this from being a sympathy thread...I would like to request a silent thread here. Thank you all and love your furry friends til the end. |

Oh Roe, I know how difficult it is to make that decision, for I had to do it myself a time or two. Not only with my own, but many a times when I worked at the animal shelter. It is the hardest thing to do, when you look into those sinewy eyes, that say please. Is it please do or please don't? Either way, it is the hardest decision to make. Yes, I agree, love your furry friends, for they are part of the family as well. Very beautiful Roe. Thanks for sharing.
