If it should be I grow frail and weak
And pain prevents my peaceful sleep

That what's to come can hold no fears.

It is kindness you do for me.
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering I've been saved

Do not grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do
We've been so close, we two, these years...

The Vet gave this poem to me before I had to say goodbye to my best friend of 17 years yesterday. I thought I would share it with anyone who has or will be going through this themselves, since I found it very comforting.
