This is something I may have wrote in haste, but when it struck my heart, the words just seemed to flow from my fingers. But a text from my oldest daughter who will be getting married in September...led me to write this after the text I received.

A Dream That Got Shattered

From the moment I saw your purple body
And the blinking of your eyes,
I knew then, God blessed me
With the most wonderful surprise.
A beautiful angel born to me
Someone I was never supposed to have,
But someone who grew up I loved
And someone that made me laugh.

Watching you grow from a princess
Into a beautiful swan,
From Kindergarten through High School
Soon to be gone.
Taking someone to be your husband
No fancy wedding or style,
I just know, my heart was broke
You didn't want me
To walk you down that aisle.

I was waiting to be asked
To be the one, to give you away,
My first beautiful daughter
My dreams shattered and frayed.
I've always dreamt of this day
To be the proud father and smile,
Being arm in arm, with you my dear
Walking you down that aisle.

When you told me that day
Your Papa was going to be the one,
But with his passing, no longer here
I felt I had been shunned.
My heart broke, but I guess you don't know
That I fell to pieces that day,
Only an invitation, just my presence
But not to give you away.

Thanks Dee, everyone on here knows I write the truth and/or from the heart. I don't write about things that are going to be kidding or otherwise. Get a life and leave the good people alone. I don't need this right now. Read into the poem better and if you were a father and your daughter told you she wasn't going to have anyone walk her down the aisle, maybe your feelings would be hurt too. Maybe in your life, you will be lucky and not have one.
