If you met a guy who was/is a Paralegal? I know that historically this profession was viewed to be a job done by a woman. Then again, Nursing used to have that same stigma, and now more men are becoming Nurses because of the demand and great pay that goes with it. Now, Paralegal's are a profession that is on the rise as far as careers go. So, if you met a man who was studying to become one, or is one, what would your opinion of him be?

I asked this cause a friend of mine is going to start school and become a Paralegal, and he is a guy who feels that it is just a job and a good career (which is how I view it too). Plus, he likes the law...just doesn't want to go to law school and be in serious debt.laugh

i wish professions and life circumstance were more eglitarian... so I have no prob with males or females taking jobs that were traditionally know as a job of the opposite sex.

My father was a nurse in the Air Force in the late 50's. It depends on what the person likes to do.

There's a good steady market for it, and it's not a job that's going anywhere anytime soon. He'll never be rich but he should make a good living and if he likes what he's doing, that's all that matters. I work in the legal field and I'd say our paralegals are pretty much split 50/50. I don't think I ever considered it to be a "womans" job, and I don't know anyone who has either.

Gainfully employeed, what is the difference? If we look down on male nurses, or male paralegals, then everything women fought for will come down, like the Berlin wall. For years we've tried to be equal to man, therefore we can not look down on a guy performing a career that was typically a female career.

Try not to do what you have to do, rather, try to do what you want to do. Forget what anyone thinks or says.

Interesting topic.

As a man who happens to be an RN I have heard comments about being a "male nurse".
No I didn't go to 'male nurse school', or attend classes with just other men. I did have one child a young boy of about 8-9 yrs old tell me one time that "Only girls can be nurses, and boys get to be doctors"
At least no one has asked if I became a nurse because I couldn't get into medical school.

Paralegal, I say sure go for it.
