that people misrepresent the way they look on the internet

What of the opposite?

Why do many create a false image of someone they are talking to and/or planning to meet? The images many create for others are far enough removed from reality that the face to face meeting is inevitably doomed.

I know of more than one person that cannot be convinced the image they initially form of someone is not usually the reality. Why is this? How can image perception be changed?

You mean someone thinking we are drop dead gorgeous when we aren't?

Because often when chatting on here you even if they have an accurate and up to date picture you see people more for their heart, and you built an image in your mind that reflects that, so when you do meet it's not usually accurate

I think we all worry about body types, our own probably more than the person we would be meeting. Guys think, do I have a beer belly or is my hair line receding, Present company excepted of course!

And women think is my tummy flat enough, are my boobs big enough and on and on it goes!

But what I'm asking is, how can the perception be shed? People choose to believe what they want. Even when you tell them differently!

Could be because of the pictures they posted. Or it could be because you imagine what you are hoping to meet and then when you actually meet they're not exactly as you pictured them

You should be straight up with her Mitch...and let her know that you have a receding hairline!
