Burning a flag destroys a symbol.
Burning a book destroys an idea. Preserve the book! |

Offensive?

Well you are suppose to burn the U.S. flag when it no longer is usable. So, I have no problem with that. Books on the other hand increase in value with age as does the wisdom a lot of them have.

If this was 17th or 18th century this would matter. Both are cheap and easily replaced.Symbolism is meaningless.

Burning a flag destroys a symbol. Burning a book destroys an idea. Preserve the book! Couldn't have said it better myself.... |

hmm...well when you go to a loved ones funeral and they present said Flag to your Mother, sister, etc, you'd see just how meaningful that symbol is. I am glad to know that my Dad fought to give people the right to even voice opinions on the matter.

Am I wrong, or aren't you SUPPOSED to burn a flag when it gets old and ratty? I remember reading that somewhere when I was a kid.
You can burn a flag, but you can't burn the meaning behind it. If you burn a book, you're burning a chance for someone to learn. Book burning is more offensive to me. |
