I told my Mom I was talking to someone online...and she said, "He could be a serial killer for all you know!" So I didn't bother to tell her it was through a dating site. ohwell

My own mother doin the old double standard too, since she thought it was nice when my brother met his wife online. They've been married 11 years now. flowerforyou

Stupid brother gets all the breaks. grumble

Oh I remember that well!!! Always a different set of rules for me than there was them. laugh But...now...we all have, or had, our own families, our parents are deceased, and the older one just doesn't seem to care about my dating PERIOD! Whatever...not like I'm doing anything wrong. My husband died for goodness sakes!

they thought I was being uncharacteristically foolish, warned me about the all the things that could be and pointed out all the things that probably wernt...they were right...I was foolish enough to believe the on-line thing might actually work...I got duped..

When a date came to MY house the entire stinking family was there to "meet & greet". It was like introducing him to the national guard.

Thank you for your story, Sandy. Hearing about online success from time to time helps retain your faith in the whole she-bang.

I guess I'm just feeling like this. Husband and both parents are gone no kids. Two older brothers both have their lives/families etc and one doesn't even live here, other one is an hour away. I've long known that I would move in a heartbeat if it came to that. So why is the thought of telling them I'm taking a trip, feel like I'm 14 and about to be grounded?laugh

Sorry to hear it hon! At least your brother's not interfering. flowerforyou

My mother won't either...but she just worries. I spose the difference is that my brother is a big fella with combat experience...so she doesn't have to worry bout him up against a world of serial killers. I try to understand her thinking. In the end what makes me happy will make her ecstatic. It's all good! flowerforyou

Your mother sounds like my brother-in-law the cop. I get to listen on a regular basis about "all the people" in the country that have been murdered by people that they met online.

No he's not interferring he just mumbles about my dating under his breath or to my Other brother. Whatever....
But you're right....before my mother died she told me to LIVE and if possible LOVE again. She pointed out how young I was...etc. I know she wanted good things for my future and I have to believe they would too.

There was a woman taken from a Target parking lot and murdered in the park behind my mothers house just last summer...she has talked about it non stop since I mentioned meeting someone online. ohwell I told her he would be there to protect me from someone trying to kidnap me...she did not find it funny! oops

Parents, children etc that you'd met someone on line, and were planning to go to visit them, what were the reactions you received?

It really wouldn't matter.
