Topic: Why our political system fails the average American | |

My opinion of course.
A friend and I were talking about this election. We were discussing the chances of Obama making it in and how the well to do white base of voters will probably go for McCain. And, of course, all the racists will vote for McCain. McCain does not feed the religious right as much as Bush did but McCain will probably get their vote also. So how is it that this bunch of people in this country govern how our elections go? My philosophy on this is this. Our constructors/forefathers of this country, when creating a system giving the people the power to have the government of choice, were people who had been denied these basic rights where they came from. So in this mindframe they could not comprehend that people of this country would not want to participate in the political process. Our voting system is set up for all the people to vote and make the government represent them. Because only about 55-65 percent of eligible voters actually participate in this process we by default create a government that "they" want. I have heard so many times, "my vote doesn't count", etc.. But if we figure that 45 percent of the eligible voters are saying this, it does count alot. Considering it is a less than a once a year event, a person has the option of writing in a candidate of choice and we do seem to care what happens to this country....what is the problem? Just frustration here at the fact our government does not represent the people of this country accurately and it is our own damn faults. |

Let's not forget the bitter voter...the ones who are so cynical they wrote in Betty Boop... or vote for people like Ventura who is a joke in himself. People should vote their principles. Forget party lines. Forget all the divisive lies & deceptions too. I say if enough people voted a third party candidate & voted OUT every incumbant...we might send a VERY powerful messege to Washington. |
