I think ring pops should be used.... That way if it doesn't work out... You won't have that bitter taste in your mouth... You can enjoy your ring pop....

no you are wrong on that.......it is a gift.... to be kept....not a symbol of a contractual agreement...

she gets to keep it

Etiquette dictates that the ring should be returned unless the gentleman insists the lady keep it.

I have to agree, engagement rings are fictional symbols of a union, but reality property and a gift, unfortunately that means it he/she gets to keep it. But those who practice etiquette and read Womens day, good way to be!

Legally, Say the man bought the ring, If he calls it off, she keeps it. If she calls it off, he gets his ring back. Does a divorce count as calling it off? lol
If there are male children I think it should be kept in the family in case they want it for their engagements and weddings. flowerforyou

If the girl calls it off she returns the ring, if the guy calls it off she keeps the ring. I read that in Women's Day.

Yeppiers this is the correct way all depends on who calls it off.

But everyone does it differnt why would you want to keep it really shsh I say sale it and and have a party lol:banana:

who keeps the engagement ring? and have you ever canceled an engagement and if so who got the ring?

Others answered the legal aspects of this question. I don't think I'd want the ring back unless it was a family heirloom. Can you imagine getting it and then giving it to someone else?noway

I've never given a ring. I do know a girl at school who caught her fiance in bed with another woman. They met at a large mall so she could give back the ring (she didn't want anything to do with the guy). He begged her to keep it and refused to take it back. She took it off her finger and threw it as far as she could. The guy then started to say, "I can't believe you did that. Do you know how much I payed for that?". She walked off. laugh

That's not true. If she breaks it off legally the ring is not hers to keep. The ring was given in contempation of marriage. If the man calls it off he can not legally expect to get the ring back even if it was a family heirloom.

Can you imagine women who go around and professionally get engaged for a living? I could if what you say is the law.
