Now days it is up to them if they want to. Myself I think if they are going to have kids they should life is hard enough on kids the way it is why make them explain why their mom did not take their Dads last name.

Even after my divorce I keep my ex's last name due to I had two kids and I thought it would be best that all of our names stayed the same. Since I never re-married they still are.

Along the same lines......I'd either keep my name (as boring as it is damn it) or I'd hyphenate (sp??) it since my daughter has my last name.

If the last name is a good one. The more letters the worse it is.

I'm a little old-fashioned, so I would unless it was a horrible name! But many professional women have built their reputation on their current names and shouldn't have to change it. It is just personal preference.
