Do you let your kids stay up at night during the summer?

My daughter tells me that because it is summer and school is out she should be able to stay up later. She is normally in bed no later then 9pm on a school night. So I've been letting her stay up until 10pm and then I send her to bedroom where I put the sleep timer on for another hour.

I'm just wondering if I'm the only parent who allows their kid to stay up late being that school is out.

I think 11pm is a good time for a 10yr old. Parents need their "quiet" time as well. Perhaps try in her room by 10:00, sleep timer for an hour and a half? chances are, she'll be out

At 10 y/o, mine went to bed at 8:00 on school nights. 9:00 in the summer and later if something is going on like the 4th of July.

But mine slept for 12 hrs. a night.

When I was growing up, my normal bedtime was 9:00. In the summer, we could stay out until the street lights came on. Then we had to come in and get ready for bed. So I probably went to bed around 10:00 in the summer. It worked for the kids in my neighborhood.

I was always a bit annoyed with the kids in the neighborhood I just moved out from. Middle school kids running up and down the street until midnight. Maybe I just think kids need reasonable boundaries.

Although I always thought 8:00 was a bit too early. Going to bed while it is still light out just seems excesively strict.

Mine is 5, so its always 9:00 unless we have a cookout or special occasion and people are over.

my twins boys are 7 come shine come rain bed at 9 pm the mother even during school has been known to take them here and there until 11 or 12 midnight haul them back home sleep and carry and put them to bed. Actually the discipline or the lack of it was the major point of our break up.It is not right for young kids to stay up the body needs the sleep to reconstruct specially at young age. The best sleep is between 9 pm to 12 midnight

Well, she usually falls asleep before the TV goes off, but the times she doesn't she wants to argue about being able to stay up later. Not to mention she isn't a morning person at all so if I wake her before she wakes on her own, it ends up being World War III, lol.

Midnight!! noway grumble

Kids need their sleep. They do their growing when they sleep.
They don't feel well and get crabby when they haven't had enough sleep.

What you are doing is reasonable in my little old maternal opinion.
