Well I do know it can cause damage to the teeth since it rubs against the front of the teeth. But not only that.. it looks gross and one day when she realizes she made a mistake she'll have a hole left as well.

Thats your opinion, how it "looks". I got my eyebrow pierced and now 8 years later I still love it...and Ive never had anyone tell me i look GROSSlaugh

But, NO...IT DOES NOT RUB AGAINST YOUR TEETH. I DO KNOW, I HAD IT DONE! The jewelery is flat on the back and rests on the gumline. The chances of it hurting your gums is the same as if anyone had bridge work or braces. Metal touching your gums wont hurt your gums or enamel.
When I took mine out it did NOT leave a hole or scar. (I took it out because I was in contact sports)

Nope, not gross lol

And I'm another who can attest to it not causing problems with your teeth; I've had one, like I said, for over 10 years.

Just make sure she keeps it clean, after it heals up it is very difficult to get an infection. It shouldn't do anything to the teeth unless it is sized incorrectly (short enough rod and a flatback).flowerforyou

When my daughter wanted to get her tongue pierced I told her she had to get the okay from both her dentist and her orthodontist.

Surprisingly, to my chagrin, they said it was okay as long as she used a plastic ball and had the piercing far enough back on her tongue.

With my kids I have made the rule that they can't have anything other than their ears pierced until they are 18(no gauges), as well as no tats until then. I have not problem with either piercings or tats, I just don't feel that teenagers can think through all of the possible future repercussions. They don't know what their career is going to be, and it can affect future jobs. If she does get it pierced I would just make sure that she does a good job of keeping it clean.
Mine pierced her own nose when she was 14. I kept making her take it out and she kept putting it back in. She swallowed a tongue ring while trying to pierce her own tongue; which is why I even considered letting her have it done. Doing it herself could have been tragic.

The holes fade over time..my daughter had her eyebrow done and wore a ring for a few years and got tired of it. The hole is almost gone now. The hole in her nose is impossible to see now too, since she stopped wearing it.

I have a daughter who will be 17 soon. She has been buging me for about two years now to get her nose pierced. I have told her she is not allowed to get it pierced until she is 18. I don't understand what is so appealing about your nose being peirced.

Well thanks to all who have posted.......I am just afraid that she is too young and rushing into this decision. My 17 yr old has snake bites and had her father sign the permission slip for it. Since my younger one is going to visit her father for the first time in about six months, she figured she would get him to pay and sign for this, just like her sister. At least she is giving me warning.

I will make sure she keeps it clean and is very careful about the cold sores with it.

Sounds like the father is disrespectful toward you & is showing your children that it's ok to be disrespectful to you..Sad and unfortunate! It's only showing your kids that it's okay for them to be the same way with you. That needs to be addressed with him.

OK, back to the subject---I tend to get off on other things...sorry! I don't like these types of piercings and it sounds like you don't either.

I'd have a conversation with my daughter and explain to her your concerns and your beliefs, etc.

Then give her the tools to use to make an educated decision about the piercings. Use the internet to view "piercings gone wrong" or have her call the dentist & maybe the doctor. Have her ask the professionals what they have seen (if anything) that was negative because she's thinking about having this done and is smart enough to research before just jumping into something blind just because "suzie Q did it and it's cool"

Good luck with the whole thing.
