Anybody else have trouble with night terrors? Is there any way to curb them. I'm aware of what they are from a biology perspective but I was wondering if there is any way to combat them? I've tried keeping a food journal to see if there was a link between foods I ate during the day but couldn't see a pattern. I get them more than just occasionally, I usually average about four a month but it can sometimes be way higher than that. Sleep paralysis is not cool at all!!! My sleeping patterns are so screwy these days that I tend to sleep in two or three hour shifts and then i'm up for a couple hours and then crash for an hour then wake up again. It usually lasts until my system crashes (about a week or so) and then i'm down for like 14 hours sometimes more. It effects my daytime activities in a big way not just in a fatigue sense. after i have a night terror, it nags at me almost constantly. Suggestions are most welcome!

Is that like Sleep Paralysis? Because oddly enough, I have had trouble with those since my 13th birthday. Wondering if there is a significance with the number 13 as I am born on the 31st of May and I hear 13 is the Devil's Number. I wake from sleep (dreams that take place in my current location at the same time of my sleep as if I was out of body) and wake to find shadowy figures standing around me, walking around my room, or demonic characters making noise and roaming around.

psychotherapy?
try a dream journal and see if you cant find a recurring theme or link.
maybe try watching for a pattern, was there more stress than usual that day?or maybe is there a certain event that triggers them.

my sister has them and she got an anti-anxiety medication.. she hasn't had them since... may not be the answer you're looking for but it did help her immensely

So lately I've had these weird hallucinating dreams where it feels like someone is crawling in bed with me and I cant move...is this anything like night terrors?

I think those are just dreams bad or good depending on how you look at it.. night terrors are screaming, sitting up, walking.. very physical..

Sleep paralysis and night terrors are two different things but I get them both although the paralysis not as much as the night terrors. With sleep paralysis, its a partial waking during REM sleep. Your brain turns off your motor skills to prevent you from acting out your dreams in your sleep. when you come partially awake, you can't move or anything. Its FREAKY! A night terror is a bit different. Night terrors are accompanied by severe thrashing around and sometimes screaming outloud and most people myself included report feeling as though they were being attacked by a shadowy figure or as some would say a demon of sorts. I get this huge weight on my chest and its like something is holding me down and attacking me. Its hard to explain. Maybe somebody on here has a psychology background that can explain it better but It occers in stage 4 sleep making it different from a nightmare which can take place anytime during sleep.

Well nothing good happens. I just lay there, paralysed for what seems like just a few seconds but when I can finally move again and check the time its been like hours since I went to sleep. I dont ever see the person, dont know if its male of female, I dont even know if they do anything or just get in the bed.

yes, that sounds exactly like a night terror. almost everybody who suffers from them reports some type of shadowy figure that seems to want to do them harm.

...not to sound like a religious freak or anything, but have you tried rebuking Satan? If something was oppressing me, I'm pretty sure I'd try that. Of course
I'd also pray to God, especially since it's worked before. Not to mention cutting out caffeine and chocolate... at least a few hours before bed.

Ok well apparently you didnt read everything I wrote...nothing good happened in this "dream". It's not like it was a sex dream or something. And I got the feeling the person wanted to hurt me...they didnt try but thats what it felt like.

chocolate is one thing I know for a fact tweaks my sleep so I avoid it at all costs! I do drink a lot of coffee though not before bed. Unless I have a night terror in which case I brew a pot and settle in for a sleepless night cuz there's no way in hell I'm going back to bed for a long time! I've never tried any type of prayer although I've heard of people who say " I'm not afraid of you" over and over until they feel better.

Yeah the first time it happened to me my grandpa handed me a bible and told me to take it to bed with me...

Maybe you could try meditation of some sort. I used to be a really tense person and I'm getting more mellow since I started yoga (even though I thought it was a ridiculous notion in the beginning and still kinda do).

Obviously your brain is stressed somewhere... maybe you have pent up grief you need to let go of, or have a bad memory trapped somewhere in your subconscious.

I've seen some crazy stuff in my life (including freaky things I couldn't explain), and praying has always helped me... even when I didn't have faith enough to fully believe it, I'd pray for help
