A wonderful good morning my History Friends. May you enjoy the year 1904. If you have any information or something interesting to post please do!

1904 Russo-Japanese War -The Russo-Japanese war erupted when negotiations over Korea and Manchuria broke down. The Japanese began the war with a successful surprise attack on the Russian fleet at Port Arthur. The port was then blockaded by the Japanese. Russian attempts to break the blockade failed after the battleship Petropavlosk was lost. Russia was also unsuccessful in ground battles with the Japanese, and eventually the Japanese surrounded Port Arthur both on land and at sea.

1904 British Forces Reach Tibet- (9/7/04) Great Britain forced the Tibetans to agree to a series of commercial agreements for the purpose of opening up Tibet to British trade. The British sent a military force into Tibet, encountering significant opposition along the way. Once British forces reached the Tibetan capital of Lhasa, the Tibetans were conciliatory and rapidly agreed to British terms as long as they did not include ceding any territory.

1904 German Put down Revolt in SW Africa-(1/11/04) On January 11th, a revolt by native Africans was initiated against the German settlement in South West Africa. The revolt was led by the Herero tribe. The natives were initially successful, overrunning several German settlements. They killed over 100 German settlers (only two were women or children). The Germans ruthlessly put down the revolt, and within a few years, the Herero population had been cut to 20,000 from an original 80,000 persons.

1904 Roosevelt Corollary-(12/6/04) Theodore Roosevelt announced an addition to the Monroe Doctrine. He stated, in referring to South and Central America, that the United States had the right and the need to intervene in the internal affairs of states in the Western hemisphere if they did not get their own affairs in order.

1904 Treaty Between Bolivia and Chile -From 1879 to 1884, the War of the Pacific had taken place between Chile and Bolivia. The war ended in a truce. In 1904, a full treaty was signed. Under the treaty, final disposition of the border was made between the two countries.

1904 US Takes Charge of Dominican Republic Finances- In October 1904, the United States took over the finances of the Dominican Republic, a country in virtual bankruptcy. This was the first of what turned out to be a number of US interventions in Caribbean affairs that related to finances.

1904 NY Subway Opens -(10/27/04) The first section of the New York Subway system was opened. The first section operated between City Hall and 145th Street.

A wonderful day my fellow history buffs! If you have something interesting to discuss concerning history of course then please post them. thank you!

It was 1905....

1905 Sinn Fein Founded-Sinn Fein" was organized as an Irish nationalist party.

1905 Greeks Revolt Crete - Crete, which had been part of the Ottoman Empire, declared its union with Greece. This was in defiance of the international forces that were stationed in Crete to enforce a previous compromise between Greek and Turkish forces. The international force promised additional reforms leading to greater Greek control. With the pull-out of foreign troops in 1913, Crete established a total union with Greece.

1905 Revolt in Russia - On January 22nd, the First Russian Revolution broke out. Two hundred thousand Russian workers marched on the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg and were fired upon by Czarist troops. Several hundred of the demonstrators were killed. In the ensuing months, demonstrations took place throughout Russia, including a revolt by members of the Russian Navy. Czar Nicholas decreed the establishment of a Duma, an elected parliament, to act as an advisory body to the Czar.

1905 Norway Seperates From Sweden - Norway's Parliament, the Storting, voted to declare the dissolution of the Union with Sweden. A plebiscite was held and the Norwegian people approved the dissolution. The Swedes went along with the decision. Haakon VII became the new King of Norway.

1905 Sun Yat-sen Founds Union - Sun Yat-sen was the leader of the Chinese Nationalists. He issued the San Min Chu I. The San Min Chu were a series of three principles calling for nationalism, democracy, and livelihood for the people of China.

1905 Japanese Victorious- The Japanese completely defeated the Russian Navy in the Battle of the Straits of Tsushima. The Russian Baltic fleet, led by Admiral Rozhdestvenski, had been at sea for six months. It was defeated by a fleet led by Japanese Admiral Tojo. The Japanese sunk almost the entire Russian fleet. The magnitude of the Japanese victory led the Russians to agree to almost all Japanese demands made at the negotiating table. An agreement was reached in Portsmouth under the aegis of U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt.

1905 Tangiers Crisis -Morocco was the last independent nation in northern Africa. On May 18th, a wealthy American retiree and his English stepson were kidnapped by forces opposed to the Sultan of Morocco. The incident began a scramble among the European powers to gain control over the country. France laid the first claim. In a surprise move, the Germans opposed the French claim. On March 31st, the German Kaiser made a visit to Tangiers and, in a hasty speech at the dock, stated that Germany continued to recognize the Sultan as the independent ruler of Morocco. The crisis began and fears of imminent war spread. The crisis was defused at the Algeçiras Conference convened in January 1906.

1905 Theory of Relativity Published -Albert Einstein, who at the time was a German physicist living in Switzerland, published the Theory of Relativity.

1905 Russo-Japanese Peace - President Roosevelt acted as the mediator in peace talks between the Russians and the Japanese to conclude their war, which Japan had won. President Roosevelt was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. US mediation was another sign of emerging US power in the world.

i want to know why Elizabeth became queen after Henry Tudor died and not his son that he had with Mary because he was born before Ann's daughter was...and what happened to the daughter he had with Catherine?

His son could not become king as he had him out of wedlock with a married woman. Though it was commonly accepted that he was his son, there was no way of proving it.

Both of his children became rulers of England, Mary first (I believe) then Elizabeth. Mary's reign was relatively short.

It was 1906....

1906 Reform in Russia - On May 6th, Czar Nicholas announced the implementation of the Fundamental Laws. These laws clarified the October Manifesto of 1905. Under the laws, a State Council was established to act as the upper house of the Duma. This upper house was controlled by Nicholas. On July 22nd, however, Nicholas dissolved the Duma and embarked upon a ruthless suppression of dissent throughout the country.

1906 Battleship Dreadnought Launched The British launched the battleship Dreadnought on February 10th. It was the first of an entirely new class of warships -- one that was equipped with all-turbine engines giving the vessels previously unheard-of speed. In addition, the Dreadnought was an all "big-gun" ship since its guns were 12 inches. The launching of the Dreadnought was a first step in the naval armaments race with Germany. The race was actually one-sided, however, since the British started from a much larger fleet and continually out-built the Germans.

1906 Universal Suffrage Finland- Finland became the first country in Europe to give its women the right to vote. Within a year, there were women members of the Finnish Parliament.

1906 Dreyfus Affair Ends- The Dreyfus Affair in France ended when the French Court of Appeals exonerated Alfred Dreyfus. The affair contributed to the decision to separate church and state in France. It marked the permanent decline of the military and anti-Semitic forces in France.

Alfred Dreyfus was a French army officer of Jewish descent who, in 1893-4, was wrongly accused of giving secret information to a foreign government. He was court-martialed and sent to Devil's Island for life. His exoneration came only after a long struggle by family and friends, which included the publication of Émile Zola's famous 1898 attack on the goverment, entitled "J'accuse."

1906 All India League -The Muslims of India founded the All India League. The League's goal was to strengthen the ties between India and the British Empire. India's Muslims created the League to counteract the growing strength of the Hindus. The League became the political vehicle of the Muslims of India.

1906 France Spain Gain Control of Morocco - After a long conference in Algeçiras to determine the future of Morocco, it was agreed that the French would have special responsibility for restoring order along the Algerian-Moroccan border. The Moroccan police force was to be jointly controlled by the French and the Spanish, with a Swiss Inspector General.

1906 Revolt in Natal -When the Natal legislature imposed a poll tax of one English pound on all residents of Natal, a revolt erupted. The revolt was carried out by Zulu tribesmen of the area and was put down when the leader of the revolt, Bambaata, was killed on June 10th.

1906 San Fransico Earthquake - The most disastrous earthquake in America's history hit San Francisco on April 18th. The earthquake, whose worst damage was caused by the fire that raged in its aftermath, killed over 1,000 people; 250,000 thousand people were made homeless, and property damage was said to be $250 million.

1906 Food & Drugs Receive Federal Control - On June 30th, both the Pure Food & Drug Act and the Meat Inspection Act were passed. They provided for federal inspection of drugs, foods and meats. This was a large expansion of federal activities.

1906 US Troops Occupy Cuba - After a revolt broke out in Cuba, the Cuban leader, Tomas Estrada Palama asked the United States to intervene. US forces occupied the island and organized a provisional government.

1906 First Powered Flight In Europe -On October 23rd, Albertos Santos Dumont flew the first powered flight in Europe. The flight took place at Bagatelle, on the outskirts of Paris. The aircraft flew for 197 feet, at a height of 10 feet. The flight won the Archdecon Prize of 3,000 French francs, for the first sustained airplane flight in Europe.

1906 Wasserman Test Development-August von Wasserman, a German bacteriologist, developed a test to diagnose syphilis.

1906 Simplon Tunnel Opened -The longest railroad tunnel in the world ,the Simplon, was opened under the Alps. The tunnel was 12.3 miles in length, and connected Italy and Switzerland.

Well that would require alot of research. I am sure there will be someone who might know the answer. In the meantime we can see what we can find on the internet.

A great movie that I just watched was Queen Elizabeth the Golden Age. It was just released a few months ago.

A very good question.

Mary was Queen for a little while. She was Bloody Mary, called this for her persecution of Protestants. She was Queen for 5 years until she died without producing an heir at which point her half-sister, and only legitimate child of Henry VIII, Elizabeth the First became Queen.
