Hello,

I have been watching this site for um... wow around 10 years I guess. I
was turned on to it by an ex-police friend back when I was target
shooting a lot to get a feel for difference hand guns.

It is amazing how many folks defend themselves or others using handguns.
Something you will NOT see in the news.

Take a look...

http://www.pulpless.com/gunclock/

I think it is GOOD news to know.

That is not supprising, the liberal crowd and their don't want
statistics like that made public. It shoots too many holes in their anti
gun arguments. Washington D.C. and the state of South Dakota have
relatively the same population. In D.C. handguns are forbidden, in
South Dakota with a clean police record for $10 you can get a concealed
carry permit. Guess which place has the lowest murder rate. For years
D.C. has been known as the "Murder Capitol" of the U.S.

Concealed carry is a wonderful thing Verbatimeb it turns every crime a
criminal commits into a game of russian roulette (except every chamber
is loaded :D ). My mom has a permit, I had a permit (I let it lapse
since I sold mine though I intend to go through th classes again soon)
and truthfully everyone who feels comfortable with a firearm and can
pass the applicable screening should have one. It wouldn't turn the
clock back to the Old West since I think the rate of crimes commited by
CC owners is somewhere in the .00002% range (of all crimes involving
firearms, though I could be wrong) and every state that has passed a CC
law has seen a drop in crime accross the board.

We have had the conceal/carry law in Kansas for just a couple of years.
I keep saying I will get a permit and have been waiting to see some
development of the corporate nonsense that would follow the passing of
conceal/carry and it has.

The big malls here do not allow you to carry, the big stores do allow
you to carry, you cannot carry even into some parking lots.

How is my right to conceal/carry going to help me if I cannot carry onto
or into specific places. The malls especially. That is where a lot of
gang activity goes on here, at one of the larger malls. It has been many
years since I perused the malls anyway but if I did need to go to one
one of those, I would want to carry now.

I would not be stupid enough to carry in my purse. I have a shoulder
holster and would carry just under my arm and jacket. If someone shoved
a gun or knife in my face and tried to grab my purse I would be able to
defend myself in this manner. I think. lol. Of course, I might just
faint, or crumple to the ground in a cowardly position and cry. Who the
heck knows? lol.

I would carry into those stores anyhow as long as you got a permit to do
so, I'd much rather the store or law enforcement to catch me with the
gun than some hell bent criminal to catch me without it.

That was something that my family was discussing a few weeks ago; that
you're not allowed to carry to certain places (some of which make sense-
bars, sporting events, ect) but the one that stuck me was work and some
of the other places, shouldn't they have a place for you to check your
weapon? If you're otherwise legally allowed to carry but they don't
want you to carry into the Stadium should they not provide a place for
you to store your pistol until you come out?

Look at those fannypack/gun & purse/gun carriers. Friend has one.
Never know till to late. Makes a great carry system. Iowa allows
conceled permits & nobody says anything in malls & etc. Law here says
hide it good they don't care. But if asked, hands out & tell them
where. Have carried 15+yrs, even Omaha, cross river, allow just let
them know if stopped. Only needed twice, but was sure glad when I did.

I was born 'bout 100 yrs. too late. I think Everyone should carry right
out in the open. Even concealed is good. If everyone knew the other guy
was packin', They'd think twice about anything they were thinkin'.

I agree with these posts, but only to a certain extent. I think the vast
majority of people are not responsible enough to carry a weapon. I think
that merely having a permit is not enough; I believe they should also
have extensive training in the use of firearms (just like police
officers do) before being allowed to carry a gun.

Jean,in most states you're required to take both classroom time and
range time (in Texas I think it's 6 or 12 hours of each) using the
sidearm you would be carrying so that you're familiar enough with the
use that you can use it automatically. As for most people being
responsible enough, well that might be just that they aren't used to
them. I grew up in the country, started shooting at 8, learning firearm
safety at my grandpa's hip, and I've been shooting ever since. In some
ways it's no different than driving (and how many peopole a day do you
yell at for being stupid drivers?) in that the more familiar you are
with a gun/car the more comfortable you become with it. I don't think
it's for everyone but the people that DO carry makes every criminal just
a bit more wary about who's packing heat.

Trust me. in time , the fear of getting tagged will teach morons to
learn how to handle it. No permits, Open season.

I read about a town in Georgia, I think, where they made it a municipal
by-law to own a firearm. It's not enforced to the point where they force
you if you don't want but as long as you can legally own one the police
show up at your place with selection to choose from.

Tell me where that is. You ask me, Drivers licsense + gun.
I don't need that though, I carry legal, In New York!!

That may well be the case if you want to own a gun and have a permit to
carry one, but practically "anyone" can purchase a gun without extensive
training in how to use one.

***

As for most people being responsible enough, well that might be just
that they aren't used to them.

I agree with that, in and of itself, but I wasn't citing that as my
primary reason. I believe most (or many, anyway) people are not
responsible enough to carry a firearm because they lack proper judgment
regarding its use. How many murders have been committed simply out of
anger, for instance?

***

I grew up in the country, started shooting at 8, learning firearm safety
at my grandpa's hip, and I've been shooting ever since.

You may well have been, but target shooting and hunting does not mean
someone's responsible enough to carry a firearm for other reasons.
Shooting a tin can or an animal (although that itself is rather
barbaric) is not the same thing as making a split-second decision about
shooting another human being.

****

In some ways it's no different than driving (and how many peopole a day
do you yell at for being stupid drivers?)

Not that many. I usually shake my head in disbelief and laugh.

***
...in that the more familiar you are with a gun/car the more comfortable
you become with it.

Yeah...well, a car, while it can be a "dangerous weapon," is typically
used for one purpose -- to get you from point A to point B.

A gun, on the other hand, has only one (or two) function(s): to hurt or
to kill.

***

I don't think it's for everyone but the people that DO carry makes every
criminal just a bit more wary about who's packing heat.

I don't think most criminals even give that a second thought, to be
honest with you. Perhaps in hindsight. Same with the death penalty --
although I completely agree with the death penalty, it does not serve as
a deterrent -- but it sure as hell ensures that particular person won't
be murdering anyone else.
