Topic: Too Young? | |
---|---|
In Sioux City IA, the city council is mainly about the interests of local business owners instead of residents. They would rather give themselves pay increases for protecting special interests. I recognize this and want to change this. Many people have said that it is preposterous simply based on my age alone? Is 21 too young to accomplish this?

No age is too young to start caring and doing something about it. Rock on brother! "DAMN THE MAN SAVE THE EMPIRE!" |

Nope, you are a legal adult. You've been able to vote since you were 18. If it is an issue that you take seriously, the go for it. It is never to young to get involved in the political process to make changes for the better.

Thanks. Its just that I see in so many different ways that they waste money and then think that they deserve pay increases for this. Currently, I am in the process of getting on the ballot for this November, but the age thing is a big deal in many peoples eyes. Regardless of age, if one is able to see fault then one should be able to change it. Unfortunately, not a lot of people agree with that.

I say fight it. I am currently gearing myself up to run for political office in Florida. There are many changes that need to be made, and it requires people to make a stance. Good luck!

As your PR Director, I'd have to advise against "onewickedcarnie" as your campaign slogan.

Heck no......and if anyone tells you that...you tell them to suck on a rock....and prove all the naysayers wrong. |

I'm a Public Adminstration major so I know a little bit more about this maybe.
Your best chance is to form a grass roots campaign with like minded citizenry. You are facing the city council. The only way you are going to win is if you can find a way to threaten their jobs. Think about how you can do this. Think of who you need on your side. Are they elected city-wide or in precincts? Chances are you will be out-spent and the media will give the other side a larger proportion of the time. This is because city council members get free airtime to talk about things like charities. Can you do it? Yes you can. It will be hard though. Very hard. If you have a degree you stand a better chance as people will take you more seriously and be willing to listen. Look around you for others who may support what you are doing and start talking to people. |

Yes, everyone wants a Juggalo running City Hall.

Yes, everyone wants a Juggalo running City Hall. Yeah, wouldn't it be great? Lol, the worst possible scenario that I see happening is that I get in, and blow all of the budget on women and gambling! That would be so cool.... |

But seriously, many people are mad as hell over some stuff with the mayor. The city council here in town wants to change the way a mayor gets placed from elected to appointed. Just one of many examples

McCallister, Oklahoma just elected a kid right out of High school as mayor

That would be so cool.... ? Sorry, I'm kinda confused. The whole campaign thing is based on that instead of the current setup focusing on sating local business owners, to start paying more attention to providing more of a budget to programs that help the community. |
