When you are left with a daunting task...like cleaning a 3 bay garage so full of junk there is no room for a car...what do you do? Where do you start? I have put this off too long. Time to face it and let some things go. Any tips?

Take it all out.

Throw away pile.
Pile for good will.
Pile for keeping.
Repeat until you have enough room.

1) Call Goodwill, or another non-profit charity association to pickup up the items.

2) Drag the items to the curve for garbage removal.

3) Have a garage sale.

Ooops that changes the equation. Then start in the center and do it only a little bit at a time. And be ready for a flood of memories. flowerforyou flowerforyou

good advice

Angel, this has to be hard. I've been there myself and I've helped many friends with this monumental task.

Only you can decide if it's something to tackle on your own or with a dear friend. It doesn't have to be done over night, you've come to a time where at least you are thinking about it now, one step at a time. flowerforyou

Maybe just start slow...one box at a time, one corner at a time.
Savor the memories, let them wash over you and remember the good things...hopefully it won't be too overpowering.

I'd do it for you if I could, but we both know that is not the answer flowerforyou flowerforyou flowerforyou

Wow, you haven't done that yet? Bless your heart. What a daunting task with som many memories attached.... brokenheart
I helped my Mom a lot to go through Dad's stuff, and little by little she let more go... to other family, to goodwill, garage sale.......
I'm so sorry Angel.
Maybe try just 15 minutes a day unless you can just get lost in it for a day or two.

Call an antique (reputable) when you have all the antiques, or what you think are, and they will buy some from you, my family had an estate sale for my parents stuff that we didn't want anymore.... We made a fortune. You'd be surprised what people will pay for stuff you were going to throw out.

You take one day at a time one hour at a time. Last time I cleaned out the shed I took 2 big garbage cans out there when those were filled up I quit for the day of course there was a lot of picking up boxing up of things to do in between.

I'd pick out what I'd want to keep, put the rest in a yardsale, what's left after the yardsale, have goodwill come and get.
Or if it's too emotional call "junk bee gone". They'll take it all. flowerforyou
