true for cigs to get the addicting toxins out of your system, but the mental habits take much longer to break.

I disagree...I know several people who were addicted to cigarettes, quit, then started on them again years later due to stress and whatnot.

that has nothing to do with the addictive toxins, that's lack of will power.

physical addiction yes it's true mental addiction takes much longer than 21 days. Mental addiction is why people make the decision to relapse. the thought gets in there head that they have to have or want the drug. they act on that mental thought and choose to pick up.

It is much more than just will power alone. A person can show incredible will power in all other aspects of their life and still choose to pick up a drug after 21 days.

Addiction isn't a habit, habit sometimes is why it's so hard to stop an addiction.

addiction is a type of behaivor, many addicts will stop one only to start another.

fiction....drugs and alcohol takes as long as it needs to depending on the person and alot of addicts and alcoholics are co-dependent or have a mental disorder which makes it even harder....as far as it getting out of your system it takes like 6 months to a year to clear totally because drugs especially stay in your fat cells but the addiction itself can be a life long struggle...AA and NA both tell you that you'll always be an addict or an alcoholic and it's not that you want to use or drink but if you ever take the first hit or drink it will kick those habits in all over again and i've seen people be sober for years and go back out just once and it kill them....alcoholisim and drug addiction are diseases and they have been shown to be a trait that can be passed through generations and those people have addictive personalities and it's hard to break that cycle and unfortunately some people never do

Fiction. It does, however, take 21 days to develop a pattern that becomes instinctive. Once you become addicted to something, you're always addicted. It's just the withdrawal symptoms that go away.

disagree with the fictions when it comes to cigarette smoking -- addiction by definition is:

Compulsive physiological and psychological need for a habit-forming substance

When i quit smoking i no longer had that behavior. Was I at one point addicted, yes. But, after that, no longer. Addiction is over, it's will power that keeps us that way. i can't speak for drugs and alcohol.
