Personality flaws or legal issues? If you answered yes, would you accept them as they are, or did you date them with the intention of “helping them get better” or “turning their lives around”, which are really just nice ways of saying you want them, but only if they become what you want them to be, not who they really are.

A friend was with a guy who claimed to be the drug czar of their town at one time, and was diagnosed as schizophrenic.... She wouldn't leave him because she was "in love". She finaly came to her senses after a year and a half. He is currently in prison!

I think this would depend with me. I don't believe in changing people to suit your needs. You either accept them the way they are or you don't. And there are things that I accept in friends that I would never accept out of a potential love. And I am very upfront about saying so. Legal issues? I always figgure no one is perfect and if they are taking care of business this wouldn't bother me as long as it didn't pertain to any kind of abuse and they were honest with me.

I never want to change anyone...I think these are two different things you ask.

Personality flaws?
A sick sense of humor - probably.
A habitual liar - no.
A hard time saying 'I'm sorry' - probably.
Someone who tortures animals - no.

the range of personality flaws is limitless!

Legal 'issues'?
been in prison 20 years - no.
a warrant out for their arrest - no.
just filed for bankruptcy - maybe.
just had their home foreclosed on - maybe.
an unpaid parking ticket - yes

In that case no but maybe if he really was a drug czar.
