Obama's campaign contends that no one earning less than $250,000 a year would see any tax increase.

For those earning more than $250,000, however, taxes could rise to levels not seen in decades. If Obama imposes, as he has suggested, higher Social Security payroll taxes on top income earners, they could see an effective tax rate of more than 55 percent of their income, not counting state income taxes, the Tax Policy Center analysis showed.

McCain goes in the opposite direction.

Seeking to bolster his standing with the Republican right, he moved quickly to embrace the Bush tax cuts that he had voted against, aligning squarely with GOP tax orthodoxy.

He would make the Bush tax cuts permanent, leaving in place all the middle-and lower-income tax cuts Obama wants to expand, but keeping the lower Bush rates on top income earners and the reduction in capital gains and dividends taxes to 15 percent. McCain would also slash the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 25 percent, and phase out the alternative minimum tax, which hits upper-income groups.

Thanks, Fanta!

So many people have paranoia about what would happen if Obama gets in.

Maybe they'll changes their tunes once they find out that they will have more income and their lives might actually improve!

But the prevailing thought is that what is good for corporations is good for us.

That's not necessarily true.

I know this might come as a shock to some of the laissez-faire capitalists out there, or maybe not.

Some corporations will send their jobs overseas and lay off thousands of employees without a moments thought.

Some corporations have neglected their responsibilities to their employees and the environment.

I'm not saying that there aren't good corporations out there, because there are, but they often seem to be the exception.

I think the key is that only good corporate responsibility should be rewarded.

Give tax breaks to the corporations who help the environment, their employees and their communities.

It's time to end corporate welfare.

The money saved could be used in other ways, like helping people start small businesses, which is good for the economy.

Muslims barred from picture at Obama event:

"Two Muslim women at Barack Obama's rally in Detroit Monday were barred from sitting behind the podium by campaign volunteers seeking to prevent the women's headscarves from appearing in photographs or on television with the candidate."

"I was coming to support him, and I felt like I was discriminated against by the very person who was supposed to be bringing this change, who I could really relate to," said Hebba Aref, a 25-year-old lawyer who lives in the Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills. "The message that I thought was delivered to us was that they do not want him associated with Muslims or Muslim supporters." - Full Politico Article: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0608/11168.html

Well, can you really blame him?

With conservative pundits saying he's really a Muslim in sheep's clothing and pointing out that his middle name is 'Hussein', next they'll be telling us that those women are Obama's 'other wives'.

Thank you Hiker for being the voice of reason and a pragmatist. If people weren't ignorant, this wouldn't have happened. Nor would it shock me if the whole thing was a ploy anyway. Childish games of this sort happen incessantly on both side of the aisle.

Here's a concept: Why don't we all wait until the meat of ths issues are discussed and then make up our minds based upon value systems. Making a decision to vote NOW is ridiculous until the platforms are more firmly etched.

Am I wrong? Is it better to vote like an ideologue?

I'd also like to point out that Barack was named in 1942 - way before Hussein was a name associated with macabre indecency and evil.
