I am just posting this for people to read, I don't expect any comments, but just that you will read and take from it what you will.

What This World Needs by Casting Crowns

What this world needs is not another one hit wonder with an axe to grind
Another two bit politician peddling lies
Another three ring circus society
What this world needs is not another sign waving super saint that's better than you
Another ear pleasing candy man afraid of the truth
Another prophet in an Armani suit

What this world needs is a Savior who will rescue
A Spirit who will lead
A Father who will love them in their time of need
A Savior who will rescue
A Spirit who will lead
A Father who will love
That's what this world needs

What this world needs is for us to care more about the inside than the outside
Have we become so blind that we can't see
God's gotta change her heart before He changes her shirt
What this world needs is for us to stop hiding behind our relevance
Blending in so well that people can't see the difference
And it's the difference that sets the world free

Jesus is our Savior, that's what this world needs
Father's arms around you, that's what this world needs
That's what this world needs

Doesn't salvation mean to be saved?

Feral,

I'm still waiting for an answer.

What is sin to you?

What is the penalty of sin?

Thats a pretty loaded question JB....And I think has so many different levels to it...but will try my best..

Transgression of divine law: the sin of Adam.
Any act regarded as such a transgression, esp. a willful or deliberate violation of some religious or moral principle.

Any reprehensible or regrettable action, behavior, lapse, etc.; great fault or offense:

to commit a sinful act.

to offend against a principle, standard, etc.

The penalty of sin
Again can be an array of things.

First and foremost for me is forgiveness of it....by the asking of The Lord to forgive.

But if someone knowing......and keeps on sinning anyway....well all will be held accountable for ones actions.

It is a very direct and simple question actually. Not loaded at all. Christians talk about sin all of the time and they talk about the penalty for sin all of the time. They usually always quote this verse:

"The wages of sin is death."

Does that not state clearly what the penalty for sin is, according to the "word of God?"

You defined sin as:
Transgression of divine law, which means: disobedience of God's law.

Plus: We are also responsible for the sin of Adam. (which seems unfair to me, but oh well...)

Continued:***********************

Further definitions of sin:

Any act regarded as such a transgression, esp. a willful or deliberate violation of some religious or moral principle.

Any reprehensible or regrettable action, behavior, lapse, etc.; great fault or offense:

The last one is a stretch because it steps outside of divine law. I may commit a regrettable action, but that does not make it a sin. I may "regret" I got married to a jerk perhaps.

"Reprehensible" is a term that expresses an opinion. Too ambiguous. Faults, are also matters of opinions. (My husband thought I had a lot of faults, but after I divorced him I discovered I had none.) laugh

(to commit a sinful act. <---------- this is redundant)

to offend against a principle, standard, etc. <------- this is not a sin unless that particular principle is included in the list of commandments or "divine law" of God.

Next subject the PENALTY OF SIN: Feral wrote:

Forgiveness of sin is not a "penalty." I was asking the question what is the penalty for sin. This is you talking about asking for forgiveness. It does not apply.

But if someone knowing......and keeps on sinning anyway....well all will be held accountable for ones actions.

Being held accountable for one's actions is part of the law of Karma and the law of cause and effect. It has nothing to do with sin or obedience to divine law.

But if a person says he is sorry and turns around and keeps doing the same thing over and over, then he wasn't truly sorry was he? Okay so he did not truly repent.

And the Bible clearly says that

"The wages of sin is death."

The penalty of sin is death. It says so in your own Bible. This is divine law made by the God of the Bible.

You are NOT held accountable for your sins if you ask and receive forgiveness and truly repent for them according to the Bible.

If you truly repent you are forgiven for your "sins" and not held accountable for them.

Does this sound correct to you?

The shortest path between two points is indeed a straight line, but it is not necessarily the most interesting path to take. Or the most beneficial.

I agree that the shortest distance between two points is a strait line, but I don't see what that has to do with the subject of the O.P.

Sin is disobeying the law of God. What law? Any law, any commandment. Take your pick. Take the 10 commandments, Exodus 20, I believe. If you break one, you break 'em all and you're guilty. Now what happens to someone who's guilty? Punishment. Even the death penalty. But, thanks be to God, there's someone who's paid the penalty. Jesus paid the penalty for our sins on the cross. All of em. All we have to do is repent (want to turn from our disobedienceof God), admit out sin and our desire for forgiveness and chance and accept the Lord as our saviour.

The penalty of sin is death, being cast into the lake of fire and eternal separation from God and Jesus. That's what makes salvation such a wonderful and precious gift. That someone so perfect would give himself for me is just mind boggling. when you turn to him, get baptized and start taking communion it's the greatest thing in the world. Communion didn't used to mean all that much to me, until I turned to God in faith

I turned to him once and didn't really mean it and the experience didn't last when I was a teen, but now, in my 50s, I've turned to him more completely and it's a wonderful and a wonderous thing.

At any rate, that's my testimony here. Hope it helps.

Sin is disobeying the law of God.

But only if you believe in god.

Otherwise it is called living life to the full
