Money cannot buy happiness in my humble opinion. Here's why:

There has been many an instance when I get paid, enough to comfortably spend the day away. Fours hours and about 400 dollars later, I've got all this neat stuff (i.e video games, reading material, etc) and no real desire to play or read any of it. Almost with disdain, I look at it and realize I was buying to fulfill a need, to fulfill an empty spot, and that spot is still empty, because money cannot buy what I truly want.

Then the next day, anxious to get rid of the feeling, I go out and do the same thing again...all the while knowing it will produce the same result...short-term satisfaction, but no real happiness.

Of course, this is more what I used to do than what I do today. For me, it's a destructive cycle that could actually trigger severe depression.

When I spend a lot of money now, I remind myself that this will, at most, provide a temporary fixation to draw my attention (in the case of a video game for instance), but no true happiness will result. With the expectations lessened, I'm less susceptable to the follow-up sad time.

Wealth is means, but you bring one important thing to the table that could average it all out. Yourself. There is also a significant difficulty in knowing who your friends are, and who are really friends with your money.

Fame is a pain in the ass, once you get past the ego of it all. You're most popular when you fail or get your ass kicked, and later are hopefully forgotten, and grateful to be.

One of the worse times in my life, i was Broke. I couldnt even get a Bank Account. HAd to roll up Change just to buy gas to go to Work. I use to Eat at my Parttime Job at the Supermarket. Of course i use to take the Food from the Shelves. I have never been that Broke again and dont intend too. As long as you live your going to have problems, and your going to be unhappy at time. But, i tell you, in this Life, in this Country, when your Broke, everything seems to make evrything feel 10 times worse.

Might not buy happiness,, but it will buy a whole lot of temporary substitutes
