I have no idea where I'll be next summer, but I can definately recommend Venice to everyone who wants to tour europe. I just spent five days being stunned and amazed of it's beauty and uniqueness.

Those are some of the most expensive places in the world!!!! Especially in the current financial climate! I would leave London until last. (just to see how much cash you have left) You can get a rail pass that will cover the majority of Europe (except the UK) that is a very efficient way to see the countryside, the cities and some of the delightful cultures. If I had to pick 8 cities to visit in Europe (and only 8) 1) Amsterdam 2) Hamburg 3) Bern 4) Edinburgh 5) Barcelona 6) Venice 7) Carcassonne 8) Dublin I have been to all of these and explored the back streets of most of them. The culture, architecture and people are all worth the effort |

Good for you! Hope you have a great time....that is a lot to cover in one trip however. If you've never been, you might be disappointed, especially on a tour as you are herded like cattle in and out and never get to REALLY experience it. A lot of people do those however to get a taste of several places and then go back and spend more time in their favorite. Just know, you will get the touristy highlights going that route.
If you have local travel groups or online forums, you might make some foreign friends (safely!) and consider an exchange - you go stay there, they come stay here! You get the tour by a local and spend time "living" like they do rather than shuffled from historic sight to the next. Just a thought.. I've heard Dubrovnic and Croatia is incredible - a real treat. I've not been but several have commented it was great. London - of course, a must see...too much to list. Be careful, as all those lovely lads will chat you up!! :) Be sure to try some fish and chips and hit a few pubs...you won't be disappointed! lol Italy - I could write a book..my favorite country. Spain - Madrid has some nice things to offer; have some paella, sangria and get outside the city and tour the castles/churches. Be safe, be smart and most of all, have a blast! |

July or August? Bad time to do a Eurotrip. Unless you don't mind massive crowds everywhere. I went in November 2007 for four weeks, by myself. No crowds, no lines, no waiting. Sure it was a little chilly, but well worth it. It's also cheaper in the off season. I was thinking about going with a travel partner, or "meeting" someone there, but I'm glad I took the solo route, and I would definitely go alone again. I was on my OWN schedule. I didnt have to wait for anyone, or agree on a place to go/see with anyone. I met some really wonderful people that were also solo, and even went to eat or sightsee with them. I planned it all out online first, about four months in advance. I'm not sure what the cost would be now, with the economy the way it is, but it was fairly cheap when I went. The total trip cost me about 2500(USD). Thats including plane tickets, rail passes, hotels, food, souveniers, sightseeing tours, museums, public transportation, etc... Not bad for 30 days, and 5 different countries. I started off in Frankfurt. Then over to Prague, to Paris, up to Brussels, day trip in Bruges, and spent my last week in Holland. All beautiful places, with beautiful people. There is a book called "Rick Steves' Europe Through The Back Door", it explains how to stretch your dollar while you're over there, and it has cheap places to stay, eat, etc.... It really helped me out a lot. I really hope you get to go! It's an amazing experience. |
