i agree with the person who said to just ask him to drop it.
then you can just have fun and forget about her. you could
also ask him why he spends so much time talking about her and
let him know it is off-putting.

you just never know what you don't know.
but there's no point in going on assumptions which may not be right.

Maybe he just feels comfortable with you and needs to get it out. Or he could just be a talker, I've given way to much info from time to time...and it's gotten me in trouble. Just ask him to stop and see what happens. Obviously you like him, so you have nothing to lose.
