My ex had surgery to remove a uterine/ovarian tumor several weeks ago. Her doctor told her a week ago she had a rare form of cancer that usually strikes women 60+ years old. Today she picked up a copy of her pathology report and it said she has a totally different and less deadly form of cancer than what her doctor said. Turns out she was confused with an older woman with the same last name by her doctor. WTF! That's a week of thinking she had a small chance of survival, and now she has a much better chance. And what about the poor other woman who must now deal with having a much more severe condition. Kind of explains why doctors need malpractice insurance, doesn't it! noway noway grumble grumble

I have heard stories like this. I work with doctors every day and like to think they are not that careless.

If I were given some type of diagnosis like that, I would ask the doctor to confirm it, with the pathology company, the lab, whatever, but I would certainly want it double-checked.

I am sorry your ex suffered like that but am happy to hear she has a more treatable cancer.

I think we all have to take responsibility when dealing with the medical community just like any other community, after all we are a consumer with them too. Get a 2nd, 3rd, even 4th opinion if necessary at times too, if you are given a really severe diagnosis and get the best treatment possible.

Just my thoughts anyways.

That is just awful! Poor girl! That's why doctors "practice" medicine, they are human too and mess up sometimes ohwell

Wow, that's tuff - the old 'good news/bad news' huh? You are right tho...the poor other woman.

Horror stories like that abound unfortunately.
That's why they call it a 'practice'.

And remember - half the drs you deal with were in the bottom half of their class.

Thoughts are with you. flowerforyou
