Most people sit at a table when eating. And when you sit at the table your legs are under it. What I want to know is why do people spread the napkins on there lap? i mean if you are going to slop it is not going to touch your lap, it is either going to hit the table or your shirt. So where is the logic?huh

That is a good question. Maybe you're supposed to sit further away from the table. I don't know. I never understood it, I just do it.

I don't know the reasoning. My big bosom usually gets the orts. The rest is crumbs upon my lap and napkin.

i tend to drop things on my lap so the napkin saves me... if things are going to fall they don't usually make it far enough to hit my shirt embarassed

probably etiquette... unless you're in a rib place, it's more "polite" to keep it there for when you need it...

and you should wipe your mouth before you take a drink so you don't leave crumbs on the glass...

The whole logic behind it is when you sneeze you don't want it all over your food so you scoot back and presto you sneeze in your lap and the tissue/napkin is there bigsmile

i was raised to not sit right against the table to avoid the urge to lean... thus i tend to sit up very straight and the gap between me and the table is where all the food i drop in my many clumsy moments tends to land
