Dear Lord,
when I was younger
I prayed for You
to give me a mate.
Someone that would
understand me and love me.
I stopped praying
for that years ago.
The reason being because
I learned at some point
that I was not ready
for who You wanted me to be with.
I was still a rose bud;
I had not opened fully
to be able to accept who
You were preparing for me.
Now after years of slow
and painful petals dropping open,
I am now exposed and vunerable.
You said that through
all the pain and sorrow
I would become a beautiful rose.
I am not sure Lord
if I am there yet.
I know that the
center of the rose,
my heart,
still needs to open up more,
first to you than
to who You prepared for me.
So, now I pray not that
You will give me a mate,
but to prepare me for who
You want me to be with
and share sorrow and pain,
but most of all joy.
