What closes a mind? How can it be opened again?

This question and this topic was custom made for me as I was given a choice of what I wanted in this life.

A man came to me, and asked me to name what I wanted for this life in one word. He gave me three days to decide. I don't know who this man was and I don't think he was a real man. I think he was a dream.

I thought about it for three days. One word. What did I want?

Wealth. Fame. Power. Wisdom. Happiness. Truth.

After thinking extensively about these things for three days I picked truth.

Truth.

So the man did come back to see me. "What have you chosen?" He asked, I told him "TRUTH." He smiled and said, "okay, but in order to have it you MUST open your mind and consider all things."

This was not a real man. I mean, I remember this event, but it was not a real physical event. It is just a memory like a dream.

So from that day forward I tried to remember the rules.
"You must never turn away from something that sounds ridiculous or impossible because the truth is stranger than you might think but more simple than your might imagine."

I am only human. I found it easy to reject unbelievable information, but I could not do that, given my mission of finding truth.

I have to look at it all and consider it and sift out the truth and the reason for the information. There is a reason for all information, be it false, propaganda, fantasy, news, fiction or whatever.

But there is so much information there is no way I can see or learn it all. Too much, most of it useless. So I don't go looking for it. It presents itself to me... So I wait for the universe to present the information I should look at. And if that information has a piece of the truth in it I find it. If it feels like truth, I say, maybe this is true, and I place it on the table.

Keeping an open mind is hard. It involves NOT EMBRACING a lie.
It involves being detached from what you imagine is the truth.

In involves being flexible and willing to change a core belief or conclusion to a different conclusion or possibility.

It involves saying to yourself, I could be complete wrong, this could be completely false. In involves saying to yourself, "It really does not matter anyway."

Some are going to say that this is being a complete flake. (I have been called worse) Not having a position. Not having a cause. Not believing in anything, changing my mind etc....

I do believe in things. They are more like "this seems probable." But I am willing to change those beliefs when and if more compelling information presents itself.

So if you disagree with me on something I want to know exactly what your position is, and why you disagree. My reasons are pretty complex but they aren't unbreakable. Do you have compelling evidence that my conclusion is flawed? I want to hear what it is.

your mind is totally free to consider every side of a conversation, to envision every possible outcome to a problem, to learn something new, even when it destroyes a previous held truth.

Is that the nature of an open mind?

What is the danger in one's inability to be free, to envision to learn?

What closes a mind? How can it be opened again?

I'm open to all conversation regarding this topic.
 Thats basically how I am:smile:
