I saw a man crying as he sat on a bench in the park
and asked why he was crying. He looked up at me with blood-shot eyes and answered, “Because I made a mistake.” He extended his clenched-fisted hand out to me. Opening it slowly a small picture of a woman laid in his hand. He looked at the picture then to me. “I loved her but,” he said pulling his hand back to his lap. “But what?” I said. Tears fell from his eyes, which he brushed away. “I never told her that I loved her.” Very confused I said, “I don’t understand.” He looked at the picture and gave it a sorrowful look. “We were friends, good friends, but I wanted more than friendship,” he said as more tears fell from his eyes. “Her name was Marianne. She was an incredible creature. The way she was, the way she never let anything bring her down. She was amazing.” His voice began to get estatic. “She knew how I felt about her. She knew all right.” He looked at the picture again and his voice went gloomy again. “But I never told her. I was afraid. Then one day she left, no trace at all…I spent the next four years trying to find her. She was gone.” He put the picture of the woman into his pant pocket and looked to me. Under his sadden face he managed a smile. “Love is a ***** kid. If you have a woman, you better damn tell her you love her. Because if you don’t, she’ll disappear and you’ll end up like me.” He stood up from the bench and tapped my shoulder. He laughed and said, “Love hurts kid, only if you let it.” Then he walked away. Watching him walk away made me think. I drove home a little faster than usual that day. When I opened the door, my wife said hello. I answered back with a kiss. “What was that for?” She said with a smile. “Because I love you,” I said. |

It's a great story to inspire you to tell your loved ones how much you care. But take it from a guy that's been in the old man's position, if you tell a woman you are "just friends" with that you love her, she will be gone faster than if you don't tell her. Women are funny that way.
