No one should suffer any type of abuse.

The abusers have low self esteems and thrive on power and control.

The abusees also end up having low self esteems and dont realize their worth.

Thats how I felt at first, but once I got out of the relationship, I changed my thoguht patterns.

thats great, once you remove yourself from this type of situations, you begin to regain confidence and raise their self esteems.

I am one of the survivors as well. And I did get out eventually (44 broken bones later eventually) And I would be the first to tell anyone to get out!!! But I am also here to tell the ones of you that have never been there that getting out isn't as easy as you like to make it sound. Are you all aware of how little help is available to the abused? As far as shelters, work and housing programs, legal help for abusees as far as restraining orders, divorce, etc...Not to mention the laws that are on the books about spousal abuse are rediculous. They are slowly changing Thank God~ But still are hard to battle. There are also very limited resources for Phsychologial assistance and counseling. Throw in the local law enforcement agencies (God Bless all the good ones) and you often end up feeling like not only are you battling just the abuser but everyone else too just to try and get yourself to a safe place in life. And imagine calling for help thinking it has arrived your lying on the floor broken and bleeding and have an officer of our justice system ask you what you did to make the guy do this???? Believe me when I tell you it isn't always just as simple as saying get out....
