Security suggestions apply equally to men as women so everyone has a safe and good experience. Trust your instincts and don't feel like you have to do anything you are not comfortable to do to find a great date. Listening and talking in the forums is a very good way to learn about people and yourself. And how you are percieved. The nicer people tend to take a little more time to get to know you so don't be discouraged. People who post often and change their photo's frequently have a lot better luck.
