below mariam webster definition "good" as a noun

2good
Function: noun
Date: before 12th century
1 a: something that is good b (1): something conforming to the moral order of the universe (2): praiseworthy character

In this sense how is GOOD - determined?
what is or are the comparitive's

Are we speculating that we are comparing ourselves to other's of our kind? Or to the creative source most call God - if so how is our "GOODNESS" determined??? Are we to believe "WE" are the standard of goodness?? Or some unseen animated force is thought to be "THE" standard? replies please:smile:

It's relevant to the standard of the day as well as the popular acceptance of that standard geographically.

I know I'm gonna get it for this but...I prefer the primary definition over the secondary, as in:
A nice day on Planet Earth is Good. The tide is Good for the planet. The fact that the planet rotates in a regular way not only stabilizes it but helps regulate all life, so the rotation is Good. To me Good in a cosmic sense means beneficial to the planets, solar systems, galaxies, etc.

There's a big difference between that kind of Good and Man being either Good or Bad. What cares the Grand Scheme for mankind's moral definitions? Nothing!

But then again, cherry ice cream with chocolate chunks is also Good!
 laugh

3: something established by authority, custom, or general consent as a model or example : criterion <quite slow by today's standards (MWEBSTER's)

ok - what is this model for todays societies or even here in the USA? Who established it? who gave the consent? Did you? I know i didn't? Isn't a "standard" in science something that all other's are measured by? - if so - how can we or other's of our kind be the standard? Would it not take something of higher moral standing to become our standard?
