HELP! My little rat terrier slipped her collar on our walk tonight & tried to[play with the pretty black & white kitty. Thankfully she did not get a direct hit, but she still smells pretty bad. Any advice on what to use ? So far the best sounding formula is hydrogen peroxcide & baking soda. Has anyone tried this? Does tomato juice really help?

you have to fully bathe them in the juice for it to work, lemon juice should help too

Tomato juice does work, but some stuff you can get from the vet clinic works even better.flowerforyou Good luck!

Most online pet sites are recommending the hydrogen peroxcide & baking soda mixture but warn it may irritate the dogs skin, & bleach her coat. I think she earned the bleached blondness, but I am thinking I should try the tomato juice 1st & save the harsher wash if it dosn't work. I have V-8 here hoping it will work. Thanks for the responses.

tomato juice worked for me "ALOT" best if you keep pouring fresh tomato juice on him and working it in , its the acid in the tomato juice that works .. good luck

1 quart hydrogen peroxide, 1/2 cup baking soda, tablespoon of DAWN for dishes. Mix in 1 gallon of warm water. Suds up the dog, wait about ten minutes and rinse. Dog will be smelling nice . I got this recipe from the vet when my dog rolled in dead porcupine. Stinks bad, and she did it 3 times. This recipe works.!!!!!!!

Yes on the tomato juice -- lots of it and over and over again.
They will be 'pink' for awhile, but it wears off!

good luck to you!

The morning after - Olive is slightly pink & smells like tomatoes & radishes. I saturated her in low sodium V-8 only once, let it sit on her for a while & rinsed in plain water. We were lucky, I don't think she was actually sprayed, though I can't imagine how she avoided it, she was rolling on the ground with the skunk. There was no oil on her coat & she didn't seem to be distressed, except for the reaction of her family. I was pretty upset last night, the cats are sniffing her & making comical faces. huh sick noway Tomorrow I will bathe her in her normal shampoo. Thanks again for all the advice.

I was dunked in a cooler of tomato juice as a child. After I was showered off, they ended up dunking me back in for a while longer before anyone was willing for the return trip home. But it does work. flowerforyou

Ummm...only read half way down. Crud! I'm glad it worked out. flowerforyou
