Surface Scratch
In the beginning, caring. Surface scratched, scored. Many times over, Vulnerable crack, worn. Became so very easy, As others distanced pain, To become the one to surface And hold their heart's disdain. A cloud came rolling in, Like a steam of fog, Saturating, condensating, Finally, a bog. Surface could not hold The weight of all the rain, Pooled by what came rolling in, Debilitating pain. The top of all that held, Could not hold the more. The crack became a shatter, A final cave in, tore. It took a lot to break, This heart that held so much. Care beyond just surface change, Beyond, beneath and touch. The deep and all contained in, A soul, a life, one's love, Surface lives a covering, For the heart of the matter..of. Raine Les 5/20/2008 |
