Thought I would share this;

A friend of mine took a report at his police department front desk for this and I really had to respect it as clever, however wrong. I hope the people who did this either get caught by the polce, or better, by an armed homeowner.

Basically it started out with a homeowner's propane BBQ stolen out of his back yard, which was a bummer. About two days later the BBQ reappeared in the morning with a note left tagged to it. The note read something to the effect of "Im sorry this was stolen, I found it in our garage and confronted my son, who admitted to taking it. I made him return it so this wont happen again. To make it up to you, here are two Detroit Red Wing playoff hockey tickets." You see hockey is a big thing here in Detroit, with the playoffs in full swing, that is quite a makeup offer. The person who left the note did not leave their name or phone number though. The victim could not help himself and went to the game and had a good time.

About four hours later the homeowner returned to find the house ransacked. They took his plasma TV and even his full size gun safe, which he said would have at least taken an hour to remove. I can't say I wouldnt have fallen victim to this either. It was such a smart scam that I almost got pissed off knowing there would have been a good chance I would have fallen for it.

Hopefully the next time they pull this stunt, someone will be too sick to go to the game and will stay behind to be there when they break in.

Well hopefully the people who ransacked the house have a troubled conscience like the boys' parent - perhaps the stuff will be returned.

Isn't it annoying when people don't get it? laugh

It's just another variation on an urban legend that has been around for decades. Go to snopes.com, under crime, then click on criminal intent.
