collect from jail.I got a collect call from a jail.I didn't accept.I was told people are calling from jail doing some scam.Does anyone know about this scam?

Probably a *72 scam, some phone's (though limited in population anymore) if you answer and are asked to dial *72 it will give away your phone number and allow someone to make collect calls with your number, effectively raising your typical bill of 50 odd dollars to somewhere around a grand.

here they dont allow it on my cable phone.... you have to give your credit card for a 50 buck prepay...
i guess that stops that kind of scams

The phones that the scam works on aren't made anymore and for the most part have been taken out of circulation, it is rare that you have that kind of phone...but to be on the safe side contact your telephone provider about it.

and ps i didnt give out my card cause they said they give u back your money im thinking...... wth? so u hold my money? i dont think so.... its real cause i called the jail and asked why pay 50 bucks up front when the person will be in there 2 days? and u would of taken one 2.50 call? guess u could call it a "real" scam
