9-year-old girl's twin is found inside her stomach
30 minutes ago ATHENS, Greece — A 9-year-old girl who went to hospital in central Greece suffering from stomach pains was found to be carrying her embryonic twin, doctors said Thursday. Doctors at Larissa General Hospital examined the girl and surgically removed a growth they later discovered was an embryo more than two inches long. "They could see on the right side that her belly was swollen, but they couldn't suspect that this tumor would hide an embryo," hospital director Iakovos Brouskelis said. The girl has made a full recovery, he said. Andreas Markou, head of the hospital's pediatric department, said the embryo was a formed fetus with a head, hair and eyes, but no brain or umbilical cord. Markou said cases where one of a set of twins absorbs the other in the womb occurs in one of 500,000 live births. The girl's family did not want to be identified, hospital officials said. |

A similar thing happened to a man in India. He had what he thought was a tumor in his stomach, looked pregnant. When they finally got in there, he had a twin and the old fetus was breaking down over the years, causing septic bacteria & gas, making him look pregnant. Bizarre stuff. Did you ever see Big Fat Greek Wedding? A lady in that talks about having a twin that died stuck in her. But, she was hysterically funny. The situation is NOT!!

that's just too weird.....guess it's not any stranger then the woman who was 60 years old... that was pregnant in her 30's but she thought she had lost the baby.....but 30 years later kept complaining of stomach pains and her stomach was huge....the doctors did x-rays and found a mass. When they went in for surgery they found the fetus from long ago and it had calicified and turned to bone.

I saw a documentary about this on "The Learning Channel". It was so weird. They were even showing people who had extra parts like a leg or arm because somehow their twin had attached itself in the early stages of the pregnancy and grew to be a part of them.
I also saw a story where a woman in a paternity suit had given birth to a child but because of her having the twin's DNA inside of her, her DNA did not match up with the child that she gave birth to even though she was the biological mother and her child was taken away by CPS. She had to fight the courts and there were lots of tests done on her by the Mayo clinic and it was finally proven as to why the DNA did not match up. They also had stated that this was not as rare as people think, but that it's usually never discovered unless a DNA test is done. And most people don't usually have DNA tests done on a normal basis. But here's the part that really made me wonder. The judge made a comment something to the effect that if this could happen to this woman who gave birth to the child and her DNA doesn't match even though we know she is the biological mother, how many cases have criminals got away with a crime because the DNA did not match based on this medical condition? Things that make you go hmmmmm |

(VTS) vanishing twin syndrome, Parisitic twin, or in this case,
A fetus in fetu can be considered alive, but only in the sense that its component tissues have not yet died or been eliminated. Thus, the life of a fetus in fetu is inherently limited to that of an invasive tumor. In principle, its cells must have some degree of normal metabolic activity to have remained viable. However, without the gestational conditions attainable (so far) only in utero with the amnion and placenta, a fetus in fetu can develop into, at best, an especially well-differentiated teratoma; or, at worst, a high-grade metastatic teratocarcinoma. In terms of physical maturation, its organs have a working blood supply from the host, but all cases of fetus in fetu present critical defects, such as no functional brain, heart, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, or urinary tract. Accordingly, while a fetus in fetu can share select morphological features with a normal fetus, it has no prospect of any life outside of the host twin. Moreover, it poses clear threats to the life of the host twin on whom its own life depends. |
