i think it's fine as long as you don't name it something like "Jar Jar Binks" or "Get The F*** Over Here" cause those names are kinda long

Shelter dogs that are strays are given names by the kennel techs, but the conditions in a shelter make it almost impossible for the dog to learn his new name, so unless the shelter knows the dogs "real" name & history it won't matter at all.
