In October I broke my ankle, spiral fracture, dislocation, tore my acl, most of the tendons and ligaments. They put in a plate and 6 screws I started skating again a couple months ago, but every day is a challenge. I feel like theres fluid in it, it swells like crazy and the bone in my leg aches up to my knee. Remedies, suggestions, stories?

Take Aleve before you skate, wrap it well for support.

Check with your doctor, but I have heard that fractures, especially that require surgery can take a long time to heal. Try keeping it elevated as much as you can and ice it too, that will help with the swelling. I don't know if the doctor would recommend an Ace bandage while you are skating or putting it under stress or not, but should ask them.

Hope you feel better soon.

Being medical, i would consult your physician first and foremost.

Yep my son did the same thing about 5 years ago the doctor told me then that there would be a chance that the plate would have to be removed sooner or later due to the body starts to reject it.

The best advice is call your doctor make and appointment let him know what is going on let him be the judge. By taking pain relievers is not always the best way to go. If your having pain it is for a reason so take care of the reason instead of ignoring it.bigsmile Just my opinion

Yea I totally went against my doctors wishes. He told me at least a full 6-9 months before skating again. Really wanted a year. I take ibupofen every day, dont have insurance so I never went to physical therapy. I do a lot of "home" therapy. Rain kills it, cold kills it. Scar hurts like crazy.

Well when I was in the 8th grade I was running down the stairs to lunch (I was running because I had woken up late and missed breakfast) and I jumped from the 2nd to the last step and this kid clipped my shoulder and I went down hard but nothing hurt at all so I stood up on both feet and took a step an plop back down again with the worst pain ever and the next thing I knew I was in a wheel chair on my way up to the nurses office and the worst part was is that I missed lunch

I take the ibuprofen mainly for inflamation. I also have torn cartilidge in my left knee and shin splints in my left leg (ankle was the right). Roller Derby takes a toll on the body. I take glucosamine, msm, ibuprofen and calcium every day.

Nope, but I DID pull a muscle in my ankle ("fibialis anterior" was what I think the doctor called it). It took me all of FOUR MONTHS to finally recover from that little situation.

The WORST part was that they put me in a WHOLE LEG CAST for a pulled muscle in my lower leg, too. Talk about being immobile... it was a total pain in the keester.
