them the next day after your first date and does not answer the phone or return your voicemail that day, do you call them the again the following day, wait a completely arbitrary amount of time, or simply wait them out until they do call? In the latter case, if they do not call back, you simply move on. I'D wait a day or two! Then, if they do not call back, you simply move on.

If they don't return your call/e-mail/smoke signal, delete their number/e-mail address/smoke signal blanket and move on, as it'll be pretty certain that the person's jerking your chain. This happened to me on a couple of occasions. Total waste of time and sanity.

In the age of cell phones and their issues I would give a second call a day or two later. I know I have had messages miraculously show up on my phone that were sent days earlier.

If you felt there really was a connection, maybe give it 2 shots as calls & emails sometimes get lost. After that, forget about it as they weren't who you thought they were afterall anyway.......
