As Congress considers President Bush's request for another $100 billion for Iraq, 68% of Americans want Bush to bring U.S. troops home within 6 months, according to a Democrats.com telephone poll of 628 adults conducted from May 1-4, 2008 by ICR (http://www.icrsurvey.com).

The poll marks a 14% increase from 54% in September. Most of that increase (11%) came from those who want Congress to require Bush to use existing funds to bring our troops safely home, bringing that total to 51% - a majority of Americans.

68% of citizens want soldeirs brought home, hmmm maybe, but I dont trust polls too much anyway as they are too easily doctored.

one thign is certain though, out of those 68% of citizens, how many of them are knowledgeable (and I am not claiming President Bush is) and capable of making a knowledgeable decision about anything to do with Iraq, or Afghanistan, or anything in that subject area?
I would hazard a guess at less than one per cent of the population would be able to do so.
There are different issues at hand besides our soldiers being in Iraq, that have to be taken into account if you do a mass removal,. a mass intorduction, or anything. It boilsd down to very basic algebra, and science.

"what is done to one side of an equation, causes the exact opposite to happen on the other side, in order to balance out int he middle."

"for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction"

Of these 68% who state they want troops home no matter what, they do not have the skills needed to figure out what would happen by removing said troops, eithe ren mass, or slowly.

I think it has hovered pretty solidly at 60-70%

This poll was from last year.

I'm hardpressed to find one thats just about this topic thats recent and not on a partisan website.

But hte problem is, was this poll available to every single citizen of the United States? No it was not. Most citizens of the United States did not even know the poll was being taken, so how can it be stated that this poll reflects the general populaces belief?

I garuntee it was given and provided to a specific set of groups, in order to come out with the percentages they wanted to make.

The simple fact is, a percentage from a smaller group is almost always going to be higher than that from a larger group. Basic math. This is why I dont generally like polls that much, because they are directed at certain groups of people intentionally.

You realize that the people don't always know the ramifications of what they wanted. I bet if you asked people if they wanted to abolish income tax you would get that or a higher percentage, but what would happen to our country if noone payed taxes?

The democrat.org one or whatever, I'm sure that one was, but the USA today one? I'm not so sure about that being given to only specific people, if I remember right, most of the newspapers like this just poll their readership.

As far as polling every american? Good luck with that, you'd be lucky to get 50% to read let alone follow along long enough to take part in a poll.

if the smaller the poll group = higher percentages, then why does the family feud answers always seem to be spread so wide?

If they are polling the readers, I would think that they are more likely to get responses from people that want the troops home. People that oppose something are more likely to speak out then those that support.
