I stated this in another thread, as well...

I was thinking (during the hours of medical testing I had lol) about, of all things, this forum.

It dawned on me that the world is seeing the "evil America" because of the Iraq war. Correct me if I am wrong...but wasn't England right there with us???? Weren't there other countries that sent troop support, as well??

I have been on pain meds...so I could be confused...but please correct me if I am wrong

We convinced them (other nations) to go to bat with us and everyone knows it.

I found on CNN at least 21 countries (including ours) that have suffered casualties in the Iraq war. If that is the case...doesn't that mean at least 20 other countries should be equally as responsible for the blame the US is taking????

PRETTY MUCH, YEP.

We're the school yard bully with the money, influence and power. They fall in line to keep us an ally because we can get things done when push comes to shove.

Every one of us has someone in our life with whom we often disagree but still patronize because we need them for something - money, popularity, connections, et al. It's the same concept with world power.

I thought England was up there with us as far as power, money etc.

But regardless of the reasons all of those countries sent troops to do what we are doing...they are still guilty of what we are accused of by the world. they just choose to keep quiet and hope no one mentions them.

I just think it's funny that no one mentions them...only the US.

England doesn't pull rank on us. That's why they fall in line on everything we do.

Everyone knows we brought the other nations along for the fight by pressure. Notice how NONE of them are left anymore? Two of them are still in Afghanistan and a few troops are in Iraq - perhaps - but the rest are gone because all those countries' citizens demanded withdrawal.

We can pressure governments to do as we say but we can't win against the will of people.

upcoming book, Heraldo Muñoz, Chile’s ambassador to the United Nations, writes the efforts by the Bush administration to cajole other countries into supporting the invasion of Iraq “generated lasting ‘bitterness’ and ‘deep mistrust’ in Washington’s relations with allies in Europe, Latin America and elsewhere.” Muñoz describes how the “rough-and-tumble diplomatic strategy” employed by the Bush administration to pressure allies for support included threats and punishment:

In the months leading up to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, the Bush administration threatened trade reprisals against friendly countries who withheld their support, spied on its allies, and pressed for the recall of U.N. envoys that resisted U.S. pressure to endorse the war, according to an upcoming book by a top Chilean diplomat. […]

“In the aftermath of the invasion, allies loyal to the United States were rejected, mocked and even punished” for their refusal to back a U.N. resolution authorizing military action against Saddam Hussein’s government, Muñoz wrote.

Its rather ironic that most of the countries who did participate in the iraq war fraud did so against the will of the people.

I agree Deb. I think this applies to all nations really. The people know that their governments function in a vacuum until it's election time.

I wasn't intimating weakness in the PEOPLE of England - just its power hierarchy.
