those barely heard
from the deepest,
dark places
popping up to find
the light
a glint of flash
the smallest things
I awakened to his eyes
looking into me
the tears will not stop
I fear for he is in Iraq,
my son, my baby
a man,
I remember ,
when my husband died
mostly holding Miles
as he stroked my face
and said
Mom, its ok
and I know
he was dying inside, too.
I missed
his call on his birthday.
I want him to be ok, home
holding..this war,
any war will never be alright
without thinking..
