I saw this morning on the local news that gas prices could continue rising over the next few years and we could end up paying $7 to $10/gal.

that's insane!!!!! Somebody I was talking to the other day was saying where they read that besides gas, groceries are going up too (hell everything is going up except our pay checks) but they read where it may come to a point that a box of cereal may go up to $10.00 a box too.explode explode explode

About a month ago or more, I saw that the cost of cereal could go up to about $8/box, and it wasn't because of the cost of gas -- well, not directly. It was because farmers were not planting as much wheat (for flour), but were planting corn for ethanol. They said that the cost of bread, cake mixes, anything with flour in it could skyrocket.

as long as the dollar (us) keeps going down

the price of world commodities (oil rice and such)

will continue to rise

like or not

weak dollar raises prices (put raises exports)

strong dollar lowers prices (cuts exports)

i know sounds backwards but whenn you can buy two dollars for a british pound that makes a 25 thousand dollar car 12.5 thousand pounds if you use the british pound

or 16.34thousand euros

it goes both ways

weak dollar costs us dollar users but should help to create exports

I would think (okay..hope) that before it got to $10/gal that some of the really intelligent folks would have put some other form of energy in it's place. Be it some form of bio-fuel, new engine system, whatever.

If they did - and say they reduced the price back down to current levels - the price difference between 3.xx a gal, and 10.xx a gal would cover any replacement or upgrade to current vehicle engine costs quite quickly.

What goes up must come down. Hang in there, oil will plummet like the Nasdaq did. Probably down to $75 a barrel. It is time to end our dependence on foreign oil though.......Maybe this time the high price of oil will cause alternative fuels to come to the main front of our energy policy.

It's mainly our obesity which precludes the ideas you site.

House is almost done floh. Just waiting for the Hershey's Inspector to sign off on the paperwork.

You are absolutely right. That and start heating homes with wood. People need to start doing this more anyway. That and start buying more stuff from local stores instead of walmart. We are becoming dependent on this. That is dangerous. Dependence = control. I think people are too scared to change their lifestyles.

Thats why there is a big drive into alternate fuel sources. I am hoping the advancement of super capacitors will lead to more efficient electric/gas hybrids. I am also hoping that we will find a way to make better fuel cells so that cars can eventually go all electric and be a viable solution.
