i would think that the two had nothing to do with each other...
however, there IS an ashley virus, just not an ashley marc james...but either way, you have to go to a hostile website or click a link or accept a file... |

I am so glad I have 2 HD's it makes me feel a little safer..lol. I mean
I would still probably cry if I lost my 80 gig and was only stuck with my 20 gig. But at least I will still have a working computer...lol. |

Lulu is right that something has to be downloaded to your computer
before you can be infected - so Kojack, exactly what happened after you added them to your friends list? What steps happened between that and your infection? |
whisper it depends if you have a ghost cd for your computer or if the
slave drive has it's own operating system, this computer I am using right now only has one drive but my other pc has 2 it has Windows ME on the slave drive and XP on the master drive so I can boot up in either or |

Kojak,
I read symantec's description of W32.Mexer.E@mm - if thats the virus you have on your computer, I seriously doubt you got it directly through the justsayhi website. It looks like W32.Mexer.E@mm propagates as an email attachment - the 'email' system (really just an onsite messaging system) that justsayhi uses doesn't even allow downloading of attachments (that i can see, anyway). Maybe you got this worm through another email service, and it just coincidentally occurred after you added that person to your friends list? Hopefully the admins of justsayhi can chime in here and clear some of this up. - kevin |

massage I have not looked at this but you can get worms, trojans, etc.
from just visiting a site IF it's infected that's why I use webtrap it checks web pages before opening them |
but I am with you he didn't get it through justsayhi and I think he did
say it was an email prob in hotmail, yahoo, outlook, incredimail or something of that nature |
>>> you can get worms, trojans, etc.
from just visiting a site IF it's infected true, but i don't think you can get that particular Mexer virus - the one i believe trashed his hard drive - that way. |
correct massage I do not see anything where it was sread via website,
but can be spread through peer to peer networks |
Oh, and just to be clear - FedMan and I are discussing an *actual*
virus, which I believe is completely unrelated to the "Ashley Marc James" virus hoax. |
I never said i got it from JSH. i got it on IM so please don t pu words
in my mouth. |
Apologies to Kojack!!!
I thought the text that started this conversation was written by you, about a friend you added on JSH - so where it said "Buddy List" i thought you were talking about our JSH friends list. Now i see that it was cut and pasted from an IM conversation. My bad! I know I hate it when peeps put words in my mouth, so i'm very sorry! |

Ty and no problem. Van & mike work hard to keep this site a fun and safe
site for all. |
Thanks Kojack.

question to kojack: do you have your IM set up to automatically accept
files from people on your contact list? if so, then it WOULD be possible to contract a virus from a friend...but just because you were automatically downloading. |

Hell No. I know someone named Ashley, met her on a diff site that i left
awhile ago. didn t remember her last name so thought mb was her, well it wasn t and it got me good. |
