Again, I'm in total agreement with you.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that a lot of people will point to discussions in religious forums and say, "Those people are disrespecting each other's views".

But often times it isn't like that at all. They are each simply giving arguments for why they feel their view has validity. That's whole purpose behind religious discussion forums to begin with.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that some people will try to use religion discussion forums as a pulpit to preach a particular doctrine, and then they claim foul or disrespect when others point out the flaws in their doctrine.

From my point of view that’s not showing disrespect at all. From my point of view it was disrespectful to try to turn discussion forums into a church in the first place. That’s not the purpose of discussion forums. If someone wants to preach a particular doctrine, and never consider potential flaws in it, then they should open up a church website. Not try to do that on a public discussion forum and then cry wolf when people start pointing out the flaws in their doctrine.

That’s all I’m saying.

There’s a time and place for everything.

well I will be the first to admit I am guilty of it myself. after me little hiatus recently lol...i came to realize things and put them into perspective. so i can't bash someone for getting my feelings hurt. see...i can admit my faults...but i learn from them.

i think it's misunderstandings online because you can't see the expression or hear the tone of voice. which is why i try to use the smileys or lol. is it right...no. people should consider that first and maybe ask first what is meant to avoid trouble.

IMO...case closed (slams gavel lmao)

YellowRose slams her gavel
her pantyhose and thorns unravel
Mirror Mirror’s Jedi church
ordains their Sister Lurch

Reverend Rabbit comes to preach
in hopes his sermons will beseech
the poor lost souls just out of reach
who’ve lost their way to dogma

Jeanniebean has a full intent
to teach the crowd to circumvent
all the things that will prevent
their spiritual demise

The Lonely Walker mediates
on all the things he knows it takes
to assure the guidance of their fates
and open heaven’s gates

Dragoness just sits outside
with Lording and a man named Clyed
they know they haven’t squat to hide
and ample time to bide

Drew will preach a thing or two
to those who haven’t got a clue
and when his sermon’s almost threw
their tortured soul’s will be anew

Sarah thinks we’re all grown up
she’ll pass around the tithing cup
and when she’s got the money due
the church will pay its taxes!

There you go Rose. Send that off to Reverend Rabbit and see if he can make a song of it. Personally I think it might not make a very good song. But then I’ve seen Reverend Rabbit perform miracles with lyrics. He’s quite the genius when it comes to music. bigsmile

One of my Christian friends tried to convert me because she was afraid I'd go to Hell if I didn't. I told her: "I don't drink or do drugs, I don't steal, I don't lie, I don't hurt people, I just live my life and try to be happy and prosperous. If God would send me to hell for THAT, doesn't that make him the enemy of every man alive? Why would I want to worship a god with such fascist rules?"

Christians are just people. Some of us say stupid things, some of us say the wrong thing at the wrong time or to the wrong person. It isn't Christianity's fault...it's the fault of the individual. And we can be our own worst enemy. Can't you? If I saw someone about to ruin their life or something about to kill them, I would want to warn them. And I would urgently to so. It is why I share about what Christ has done in my life and how He loves them. But I also wouldn't shove it down their throats. We are given freedom of choice, and I will respect your choice. But you also have to understand the difference between the religious "Christian" and those that have a relationship with Christ. I am Christian. I believe and only with God's Spirit can I live my belief according to the Bible, but I am not religious. My belief is out of appreciation and love...not out of rules. I can believe your beliefs wrong but I won't bash you or poke fun at you. It wouldn't please God, who loves you. flowerforyou flowerforyou flowerforyou

this applies here as well IMO

it is what is truth to the individual. what is myths to some is history to others. to tell something they are flat out wrong and they are living a fairy tale is nothing more than lack of respect. it may not be a truth to you....but no one should discount someone for not believing as you do

you are right....speaking what you believe isn't wrong. telling someone else they are wrong is IMO....humans aren't all knowning . it's only what the individual holds as true. telling someone they are wrong for their beliefs or pushing things only invites anger and argument, unless the other can just walk away and ignore the person and stay away.

Have you ever heard the story of "The Emporor's New Clothes"? Is it always best to let people believe what they want even if they are wrong. Like in a cult situation where it could be harmful to others?

speaking to people and pushing are 2 different things. you can't force peole to believe what you see is true....including cults. all you can do is speak your mind but when you push...you push people away. saving someone in what you believe is a cult to try to save them is no different than your friend talking to you to save you in her eyes. pushing after being told to stop is different

True. I guess it would be up to the police if they were breaking the law. That is probably all you can do.

ae....i posted a scripture that you can point out to your friend to help her see. but i imagine what she is trying to do (however pushy it seems) is maybe what you would do for a friend in what you believe is in a cult
