OK, my lap top has 2 gigs worth of RAM in it. I just reformated it, which deleted everything I added to it (normal I know). And since I reformated it I have not had it online. Only thing I have ever done to it was watch movies on it. And last night I had this safety check by HP telling me that I needed more RAM. How is that possible when I do NOTHING with my laptop?

Just like the human body, things break down with age. The heat beatin on it, the ram being used, and all the info going thru them, they tend to break down after so long. You might have a stick of ram going bad. I've had that happen to me on many occasions. I think it's happening right now actually lol.

Take it to a comp shop, and they should have the equipment, or someone good enough, to tell you what's goin on with it.

How do I do that?

I should also add (just cause I am seeing Sxy post now) that my laptop is not even a year old. 6 months at the most.

.... So 2GB of RAM is generally considered the sweet spot for Windows Vista. As the operating system matures, along with supporting software, it's possible that number will climb. It's a wise move to choose a PC that can be upgraded to 4GB.....

While hardly conclusive--several of my friends are running Vista but with 4 gigs of RAM. They have shared that with 4 it is running OK--so who knows with two, though that is sad considering I run OSX with 1 gig of RAM with zero issues.
